Easy-care grave planting for autumn/winter: Plant in August and use all year round

Especially if the cemetery is a little further away and cannot be visited regularly, grave plants are in demand that require little care and can also decorate the grave all year round. Which autumn grave plants can be planted in midsummer or late summer and will decorate the cemetery at least until late autumn or even winter?

You can plant the following varieties now in August despite the harsher conditions. Some of them will not only decorate the grave well into the winter, but will also bloom again in the coming season, so you can have something from them all year round. Others will have to be replaced in the spring.

General rules for autumn grave design with flowers

  • In spring you leave larger spaces between the plants, but not in autumn. Why is that? Spring is the beginning of the growth phase and the newly planted flowers will now grow lushly in width and height. Therefore, they need enough space. At the end of summer or autumn, however, the growing season ends. If you leave too large a distance, the grave planting will appear a little bare in the fall.
  • While in summerIf particularly drought-loving plants need to be planted, autumn and winter offer enough rainy days to also supply those that need a little more moisture.
  • Regular fertilizer is no longer necessary.
  • Native plants and especially evergreen, hardy specimens are particularly easy to care for and require little attention once they have grown.
  • Protect the flowers from fallen leaves in autumn. This can start to rot and infect your plants. So rake it away regularly.
