If you would like to plant a bowl in autumn, you have a wide variety of plants to choose from, which you can also combine with decorations. Want to get a little creative? We'll show you a few beautiful arrangements that you can replant or modify according to your ideas.
What could you plant a bowl with in autumn?
First of all, it should be said that you can choose plants according to your own ideas. Of course, these are preferably autumn bloomers, because ultimately you want to experience the plants you buy in their full splendor. Some of them are more frost tolerant, others less, so you can choose this as a criterion in addition to the flowers. The more robust the plants in your arrangement, the longer they will lastSurvive autumn cold.
Combine the flowering specimens with those that particularly score points with their colorful foliage. This includes not only succulents, but also silvery-green plants such as the barbed wire plant or the woolly zest. The ornamental cabbage also impresses with its beautiful, even color transitions from green to pink or yellowish white and can be planted in groups or as an accent in a more versatile arrangement.
Heather is a particular favorite that adorns the pots from autumn onwards and usually remains reliable until late in the winter. Cyclamen, pansies, chrysanthemums, marigolds or berry plants such as peat myrtle (Pernettya), mock berries (Gaultheria), love pearl bush (Callicarpa) or firethorn (Pyracantha).
Examples of successful autumn planting of plant pots
Of course, we don't want to withhold a few design ideas for the plants mentioned above from you. Create tone-on-tone arrangements or work with contrasting colors – you can decide for yourself.
Pearl bush, cyclamen and heather with ornamental pumpkin
Typically, in a planting bowl, the tallest plant is placed in the middle, while the lower ones are arranged around it and outwards in order of size. In this example, this rule was played around a bit: the taller cyclamen and heather form a line from one edge to the other through the center of the bowl, while the impressive pearl bush with its purple berries and the ornamental pumpkin take up the remaining free areas. A few accents were added with acorns.

If you want a more minimalist color, the ornamental cabbage can also be chosen in a color combination of white and green and combined with plants that are more subtle in terms of color. Or, conversely, create contrast with bright cabbage and bold flowers as a center or background.

Ornamental cabbage in a group of two or three
Depending on the size of the planting bowl, you can combine two or three decorative charcoals in one container. The whole thing looks simple, but is still an eye-catcher due to the intense colors. A group of three could also be planted around a specimen plant for the center. There are no limits to creativity except for the size of the container.

Alternative to planting: Just use fall decorations!
Do you have a free planting bowl that you would actually like to use, but you don't feel like planting it? That doesn't matter, because there are various other ways to design the bowl:
- For example, a beautiful autumn wreath can simply be placed on the edge of the bowl.
- Place floral foam in the planting bowl and insert cut or dried flowers for a pretty arrangement.
- Decorate with decorative pumpkins.
- Place an object in the bowl, for example to place a lantern in an elevated position, and decorate around it with flowers or other decorations.
