Like most Mediterranean plant species, the Schopflavendel likes it fully, warm and dry. So if you are looking for the perfect place in the garden, choose one in the sun. Drafts should be avoided here. The plant isSuitable for sunny stone gardensas long as they are protected from the wind.

Since the plant likes it warm and dry, you should also ensure a floor with these properties. Heavy tone soils are less suitable, instead it should be permeable, sandy or gravel. Waterlogging should be avoided.

The floor should also be lean. Accordingly, you need to worry less about nutrient deficiency. Pay attention to a pH from neutral to acidic. Lime is acceptable to a certain amount, but is not tolerated as well as the real lavender.

How they pour appropriate

As a real sun worshiper, the Schopflavendel can handle dryness wonderfully. For this reason, waterlogging is also a large enemy of the plant. If you also maintain the Schopflavendel, pay attention to an appropriate amount of water gifts. The following applies:Only pour when the earth has dried well. This means that the upper layer of earth should be dry. You can check the whole thing by sticking your finger into the floor. So simply notice whether it is time to pour.

In the garden:

  • Pour occasionally, but economical.
  • Typically, once a week is enough. But that also depends on the season and how long a dry period lasts.
  • The nature of the soil influences the frequency of water: sandy soils dry out faster and benefit from a protective mulch layer (e.g. from gravel).

In the pot:

  • Pouring here is more often necessary than in the bed. This is due to the smaller amount of substrate and the fact that the container is also illuminated from the sides.
  • During the summer months, irrigation is often necessary two to three times a week. Again, it is important to first check the upper layer of earth.
  • Be sure to remove excess water in the coasters to prevent waterlogging.

More tips:

  • Pour root close to the root so as not to moisten plant.
  • Better rarer, but pervading pouring than little and more often.
  • The best times for watering are the morning and evening so that the water does not evaporate faster due to the heat than can be absorbed by the plant.

In winter:

  • Pouring is usually unnecessary.
  • Only water if there is no rain or snow for several weeks.
  • Pour so much in the pot that the earth never dries out completely.

Do you have to cut the Schopflavendel?

Like the real lavender, the Schopflavendel tends toto be recovered from belowif it is not cut regularly and correctly. Therefore, the cut is also a necessary measure if you maintain the Schopflavendel.

First cut after the main bloom:

  • Cut the first time in June to July - as soon as the first flower is over.
  • Remove the faded inflorescences.
  • Shorten all shoots by about a third.

This cutting measure promotes a second flower.

Second cut in late summer:

  • This so -called autumn cut at the end of August or early September is less radical, otherwise it becomes too sensitive to frost.
  • Perform a light shape cut with which you want to keep the plant compact.
  • Avoid cutting after the time period mentioned, especially from October it will be delicate. Then the plant can find it difficult to get through the winter.

In the springnoCarry out the radical cut.Shopf lavender is difficult to get out of old wood, so there should always be green leaves.
