Planting and caring for cinnamon herb: It's child's play, but there are still a few tips

The wallflower as a personification refers to an inconspicuous person (usually a girl) who hardly gets any attention. But if you look at the plant from which the name comes, you might think that's wrong. Because the cinnamon herb, as the flower is also called, is not only pretty to look at, but also healthy. If you plant the cinnamon herb, you will get several benefits from it.

  • Flowers and leaves are edible
  • extremely easy to care for and resistant to pests and diseases
  • spreads easily without becoming too invasive

By now you know that when planting and caring for the wallflower (Wall cymbals) will not have any difficulties. Nevertheless, we summarize the most important things.

Choose the right location and soil

That the plantIt tolerates shady places extremely well, we have already mentioned. The herb prefers to be in partial shade. If necessary, it can also be sunnier.

There are no limits when it comes to soil conditions. Humus, loamy, sandy, normal or nutrient-rich and temporarily dry – everything is permitted. However, it is important that you avoid waterlogging, so you should adapt the watering behavior to the soil (water-retaining clayFor example, it dries out more slowly than sandier soil).

The first location is important:

Once the cymbal weed has become established, there is almost nothing to stop it from spreading (except perhaps other, more invasive plant species). It is therefore an advantage if you choose particularly advantageous places in the garden for the first planting that come as close as possible to his favorite needs. That would be:

  • partial shade, with sufficient sun.
  • Locations that receive enough rain and moisture.
  • Plant three to four plants per square meter.
  • To get started, mix your own substrate, even if the plant will no longer be demanding when it is spread out later. To do this, use equal parts compost and sand. You then distribute thisin the selected jointsor other locations.

The idea behind it is to give the herb the best starting conditions, whereupon it will naturally spread in other directions due to its tolerance, regardless of whether it is shady or sunny.

Watering and fertilizing

Once the wallflower has gotten used to its new place, you can basically leave it to its own devices because it is robust and can cope well with extremes. You should only remember to give it a few drops of water in the hot months if it is in the blazing sun.

The situation is similar with fertilizing. Whether it is necessary depends on your garden soil. If it is very poor in nutrients, please treat your garden plant with fertilizer from time to time. In normal soil, everything that the cymbal herb needs is already present.

Plant the cinnamon herb in a pot on the balcony

It is a shallow-rooted plant, which is why it is not a problem with the cinnamon herb itselfcultivate in shallow dishes. The delicate herb actually looks very pretty there, especially when it blooms. In terms of care, the same applies as in the garden: it's best to do it in partial shade to sunny, with fresh soil. Remember that the soil in the pot dries out more quickly than in the garden bed, which is why you may need to water more frequently in this case.
