Not every dishwashing liquid is suitable

Before you get started, make sure your regular dishwashing liquid is up to the job. Some dishwashing detergents are specially designed for sensitive skin and have comparatively less fat-dissolving properties. This may be better for the hands, but can remove dirt and theDeposits in the ovennot removed as effectively. It is best to use a good, grease-dissolving detergent. These usually have a strong color and do not look creamy. Is it ready yet? Then let's get started!

Before you start, you can use a simple trick to easily loosen the grease and dirt inside the oven. Turn the oven on briefly to 50 degrees so that it preheats slightly, then turn it off. This only takes a few minutes but makes the task much easier. In the meantime, you can prepare the soapy water. All you need is dishwashing liquid and warm water.

  • For light dirt, mix 500 ml of warm water with 3-4 squirts of dish soap.
  • For stubborn dirt, mix warm water with dish soap in a ratio of 2:1.

Here are some other resources you can use:

  • a spray bottle – spraying makes it easier to wet the inside of the oven
  • scouring pad
  • Microfiber cloth

This is how it works step by step

  1. Briefly preheat the oven to 50 °C, then switch it off.
  2. Remove oven racks and baking sheets from oven.
  3. Use a damp cloth to remove any loose crumbs and dirt from the inside of the oven.
  4. Apply the soapy water using a spray bottle or sponge everywhere in the oven - on the walls, floor, ceiling, discand rails.
  5. Allow the detergent to work for 10 to 20 minutes.
  6. Scrub the inside of the oven again with the sponge until the dirt is removed.
  7. Close the oven door and clean the outside of the oven.
  8. Remove any soap residue with a damp microfiber cloth.

These removable parts of the oven are easier to clean when they are not in the oven. It is always advisable to rinse the sheet with hot water before cleaning with a detergent. This dissolves the fats quite well and can also help to remove incrustations more easily. After rinsing the tray with hot water, apply some dishwashing liquid directly to it. Immediately scrub the top and bottom of the baking tray with the scouring pad, leave for about 4-5 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

A dirty oven rack is a little trickier to clean. It works best if you use the gridSoak in a tub of hot water and dish soapand then clean with dryer sheets or scourer. Work precisely to clean all gaps in the frame. Then allow the oven rack to air dry and wipe dry with a clean rag.

How often to clean the oven?

There is actually no general rule about how often you should clean the oven. It really depends on how often you use it and if there have been any recent food spills on the floor. Check the floor and walls after each use and try to clean up spills and food crumbs immediately. This will ensure they don't burn and stick in the oven. If you notice smoke or an unpleasant smell when using it, then the oven urgently needs cleaning.

What makes cleaning an oven so difficult isn't always the occasional spill, but rather the oils that evaporate and stick to surfaces with each use. This can be easily noticed on the oven window. Even though nothing has been spilled, it gets a coating of grease splashes that spoil the view. For this reason, we would recommend that you clean the oven at least once a month to prevent the build-up of grease and dirt.

Dishwashing liquid is an inexpensive home remedy that can be used for many purposes. Use it for regular cleaning of the oven and you no longer need expensive chemical cleaners.
