Handbags are really important, but somehow they quickly turn into an endless hole where you can't find anything. But what if we told you there was a way to stop all that digging through your purse so you could actually find what you need in just a second or two? Sounds incredible, right? In this article, we'll show you how to clean and organize your handbag and keep it that way.
Clean and organize your handbag
On an average day, a handbag can go through a lot, from crumbs and water bottle leaks to makeup stains. We rely on our bags, but to keep them stylish and clean, they need some care. How to do it correctly:
Empty the entire content
Empty your handbag completely and check what you actually need and use regularly. Lay out the contents on a few paper towels and group the items together.
You may also want to open your wallet and empty the contents. Again, group the items together – loose change, cards, cash, receipts. Once you have cleared out your handbag and wallet, open all pockets and other compartments. Hold the bag over the trash can and shake it thoroughly. If possible, turn the lining inside out to really shake out any crumbs and lint.
Clean your purse
Use a lint roller or the vacuum's soft brush attachment to thoroughly remove any debris. Lint rollers are ideal because they are gentle and do not damage the lining.
Remove interior and exterior stains with alcohol-free baby wipes. Always test them on an inconspicuous area in case they leave stains.
If possible, pull out the fabric lining and wipe it with a damp sponge rinsed in hot, soapy water.
If the lining of your handbag is made of leather rather than fabric, be careful not to get it too wet during this step, otherwise it could become brittle.
If you have any of these common, stubborn stains in your purse, here's how to get rid of them:
- On canvas handbags, stains can be gently removed with an eraser.
- Ink stains can be removed with an alcohol swab, but be careful as alcohol dries out leather and can damage certain fabrics. You can also try applying denatured alcohol to the affected area with a cotton swab - just don't get it too wet. Gently blot the stain, trying not to spread it while it dissolves. Then blot the stain with a white paper towel, frequently moving to a clean area of the cloth.
- If your handbag is lined with cotton, small lipstick stains will often come out if you rub it with a little liquid detergent. For larger stains, you should try using a special stain remover.
- Clean the makeup stains as much as possible with a kitchen towel. Don't get it wet, that will only make the stains worse.
The lining should dry quickly so that it does not become musty. Place the bag with the lining facing out over a radiator or dry with a hairdryer.
Once the lining is clean and completely dry, you can enjoy packing your now pristine handbag again.
Pack only the essentials
Once you've cleaned your handbag, it's time to organize the contents you want to store in it. Now you are supposed to ruthlessly remove all the extra items that you are carrying around with you.
Wipe down each item as you sort it out. You don't want to put an item back in your bag that is sticky or dirty on the outside.
Think about how you create the contentyour baginto easy-to-find categories. Then organize them with colorful bags that fit all the little things so they don't end up lying at the bottom of the bag. They also make life a little easier because you know what goes where and where exactly to find the item you need.
Arrange your handbag quickly and easily
- Use a small case to store your headphones and put them in a bag with your phone.
- Attach your keys to an internal keychain in your purse with a clip.
- Reduce the amount of makeup you keep in there.
- Prepare a separate bag for feminine hygiene products to put in your bag during your period.
- Choose a type of gum or breath freshener and pack it along with a small pill container, band-aids, and towels.
- Use a notepad with a built-in pen holder and always close your pen when not in use.
- Every evening, immediately take out the receipts or take photos with youyour cell phoneto document and store them.
