If you are sick, you should stay at home andrest. We all know that. To ensure a quick and pleasant recovery, it also helps to make the environment more comfortable and beautiful. We show you some 10 must-haves that ensure maximum comfort during this time.
1. Comfortable bed
Bed rest is the classic medical prescription when you are sick or not feeling completely fit. It's possible to drag yourself to work sick, as many people do, but it's not worth it. Viral diseases are usually highly infectious, so you should not go out among people. The disease can also lead to cardiovascular complications because even the harmless walk from bed to the bathroom puts strain on the blood vessels. After you got up, the blood supply increased - as a result, the virus spread further throughout the body. So don't give it a chance: stay in bed, drink lots of tea and water and take the prescribed medication.
Tip: If the current mattress is already sagging or the sofa bed is too hard, a mattress topper can offer more comfort. This is a cost-effective way to improve sleep quality and prevent back pain without replacing your mattress or buying a new sofa.
2. Serving tray
Practice shows that if you do everything right on the first day of your illness (drink a few liters of warm drinks, rest and sleep longer), you will get well again more quickly.
Serving trays are wonderful helpers when it comes to organizing a comfortable place next to the bed for teapots, cups, etc., and immediately create the association of a vacation in a 5-star hotel with good service. Unfortunately, they belong to the category of home accessories that not everyone has at home. But they prove to be particularly practical when you are sick at home. But you shouldn't necessarily wait for flu season to buy a pretty serving tray.
When choosing the perfect tray, it's important to pay attention to the following:
- a high edge
- comfortable, strong handles (a tea kettle with tea is usually heavy)
- Sufficiently large storage space so that all items do not tip over when being carried
A serving tray can be conveniently placed on the bedside table in the bedroom. But if there is no space for bedside tables in your small bedroom or you like to rest on the sofa in the living room, then a compact serving trolley may be a better solution for you.
The criteria for selection:
– the serving trolley should also have a sufficiently high edge
– as well as about roles. So you can place it wherever you need it. When you are sick at home, any mobile thing will make your life much easier because it is important to avoid any exertion.
3. Thermos / vacuum jug
Sometimes the body hurts so much that every movement is uncomfortable. In this case, it is recommended to drink 2-3 liters of warm liquids and actively sweat. Existing pollutants are flushed out of the body through sweat. If you fill an ordinary kettle to the top, you have to boil the water every time (just to make one cup of tea). It makes more sense to prepare a large amount of tea, pour it into a thermos and place it next to the bed. Then you don't have to get up so often, you only have to go to the kitchen once every few hours. Fill the pot, throw away the used tissues and go back to bed.
4. Container for used tissues
Normally the bins are in the kitchen, but they need one near the bed. To avoid ending up with a pile of used tissues, you should look for a suitable container in which to collect them. This could be a plastic container, a basket, a high-sided baking pan or even a pot. It is important that this improvised container for used tissues has a high edge and can be easily washed (preferably with boiling water).
5. Mobile workstation
Nobody dreams of working on sick leave, but in reality, unfortunately, that's exactly what happens. Business doesn't wait and so many people are forced to open their laptops even when they're sick. Keep all the necessary accessories close at hand.
Pay attention to the lighting conditions in the bedroom and get an additional light near the bed if necessary. Light should not put strain on your eyes, especially if you are sick. That is, if it is necessary to work at the computer, the contrast between the screen and the environment should be minimal.
Possible variants:
– a lamp that gently diffuses the light and does not blind the eyes.
- a table lamp made of fabric or plastic - if you accidentally drop it on the floor, it won't break easily.
– a lamp for clamping – this is attached to the bed headboard or a piece of furniture next to it.
Tipp: Install a program on your computer, such as flux, that automatically adjusts the monitor color temperature depending on the time of day. This relieves the strain on your eyes and makes them less tiring.
7. Lots of pillows
So that you can lie comfortably, support yourself with lots of pillows. Even if you always sleep on flat and thin pillows, you should have a few larger ones ready to place under your back for more comfort.
8. Blanket
Another essential tool for recovery. The only recommendation is to choose fleece or another hypoallergenic material as colds make allergies worse. That is why wool blankets can only be recommended to those who know for sure that they will not worsen a runny nose. And distinguishing whether it is a cold or an allergic reaction to the wool or medication will not be easy even for a doctor. More about the blanketsyou can read here.
9. Temperature rules
The right room temperature in the bedroom is crucial for youhealthy and restful sleep, especially when you are sick. If for some reason you do not have temperature controls on radiators, install them as soon as possible. Without it, it is impossible to maintain a temperature of 18° C, even if you regularly ventilate the room.
Air conditioning systems are not particularly helpful in the cold season and often create a noticeable draft.
10. Vitamins for the eyes
To support the body's recovery, not only teas, fruits and vegetables help, but also optical vitamins that act like wellness for the soul. These could be, for example, a vase of flowers on the windowsill (but not near the bed) or a bowl of fruit (even if you don't want to eat anything).
In fact, even in ancient times, the ancient Greeks believed that beauty and health were linked and that beautiful meant healthy. Surround yourself with things that fill your home with beauty and exude refreshing purity!
Don't surf the Internet again, but use this time out to calm down and just look out the window!
The most important thing in brief:
- Without waiting for illness, check the condition of the mattress or bed, if necessary, purchase a mattress topper.
- Check whether there are enough pillows in the house to work half-sitting in bed and whether there are enough cozy blankets.
- For warm drinks you will need a thermos and a serving tray next to the bed.
- If there are no bedside tables in your bedroom, it is better to purchase either a side table or a trolley with high sides and wheels.
- Consider whether it is possible to bring an extra lamp and a container for used tissues into the bedroom from other rooms.
Stay healthy!
