Wooden staircase – Attractive oak & clay for the walls

This friendly apartment was created from two apartments one above the other. For this purpose, a variety of changes were made, including the wooden staircase as the focal point. Ultimately, a unique interior was created, which we would like to introduce to you in this article. The owners owe the design to Zest Architecture. The apartment is located in Barcelona in Spain.

After a previous onerenovationThe original construction of the former factory building was hidden by paneling for the ceiling. The architectural team removed these and used the actual height of the rooms to create more spacious rooms in the duplex apartment with wooden stairs. An important point that was important to the owner was to create a musical space where small concerts could be held. They also wanted a work room and a library so that these became part of the new interior.

The connection between the upper and lower apartments is formed by wooden stairs. It quickly turned into the heart of the apartment. The reason for this is not only the decorative display cases that were integrated into the wall and display the owners' collections, but also the use of bleached oak wood. But wood doesn't just play a big role there. Since the owners placed great value on wood, this material was used everywhere in the apartment, mostly in the form of wall paneling and for furniture.

A flowing design was created for the room layout on the first floor with wooden stairs. The rooms flow evenly into one another, in principle forming a whole, but are still visually separated from one another. The center of this floor is the kitchen with seating area. From it you get a perfect view of the large terrace. To one side is the music room, which impresses with its vaulted Catalan ceiling. Sliding doors allow this room to be closed off or opened up to the rest of the lower floor.

Opposite the music room and on the other side of the kitchen is the living room with lounge. It represents a walk-through room through which you can access various utility rooms such as a laundry room, a walk-in closet and the bathroom. The wooden staircase also acts as a room divider between the kitchen and the entrance door, creating a spacious and practical hallway and entrance area.

The second floor, which is reached via the wooden stairs, contains some of the more private rooms. This includes the bedroom, a guest room and two bathrooms. There is also the study and the library, which was specially made for this room and is made of oak, which in turn is supported by thin steel beams.

It's not just the wooden stairs and wall paneling that impress with their material. Clay was also used as plaster for the walls. The workmanship is of exceptional quality and is reminiscent of Moroccan waterproof gypsum plaster. The walls have an attractive, uneven surface with an interesting color.

In the bathroom, the Corian sinks, which were specially designed by Zest Architecture and have integrated drawers, are impressive. The terrace gives the finishing touch to all the luxury and comfort. There, specially made steel pergolas guarantee pleasant shade and a built-in whirlpool invites you to relax. All lighting is also a design by Zest Architecture and uses LED technology. An aerothermal system supplies the underfloor heating with water in winter and cools the apartment with its wooden staircase in summer.
