Almost everyone likes chocolate, which is why the American chocolate cake, also known as a brownie, is one of the most popular desserts ever. This is a classic recipe that can be refined as desired. Just in time for strawberry season, we'll now show you how you can prepare delicious brownies with strawberries.
Make your own strawberry brownie slices: This is how it works!
This strawberry brownie cake not only tastes wonderful, but is also decorated with lovely strawberry hearts. In our article “Make your own strawberry decorations for cakes” you can discover more original ideas for decorating desserts with strawberries. To make this ultimate chocolate treat yourself, you need the following ingredients.
- 170 grams butter (salted or unsalted)
- 100 grams + 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 350 grams + 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 100 grams of flour
- 2 cups (approx. 200 grams) coarsely chopped dark chocolate
- 80 grams of strawberry jam
- 4 medium strawberries
Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Line a square baking dish (20 x 20 cm) with baking paper, leaving an overhang of 2 centimeters (or grease the dish well and dust with flour) and set aside.
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat, add cocoa powder and stir with a wooden spoon until mixture is smooth. Stir in sugar, salt, eggs and vanilla extract. Add flour and stir until well combined.
Set aside 1/2 cup of the chopped chocolate and stir the rest into the brownie batter.
Spread the dough evenly in the prepared pan. Since the dough is very stiff, this works best with the back of a wooden spoon. If you have one, briefly hold an offset spatula under hot water and use it to spread the dough into the corners.
Pour the jam onto the brownie and spread it roughly with a skewer. The jam should appear marbled and not be mixed in completely, leaving pockets behind. Then spread the remaining chocolate over it.
Remove the stems of the strawberries, making two diagonal cuts downward to create a V shape in the top of each berry (as shown). Then cut the strawberries lengthwise into thin slices. This is how the sweet heart shapes are created, which are now sprinkled over the brownies.
Bake the strawberry brownie for about 40-45 minutes, until the edges are set and the top of the brownie appears dry (apart from the chocolate chips). If you press lightly on the center, the dessert should still be a little soft.
Let the cake cool in the tin for at least 20 minutes before lifting it out and cutting it into squares.
Different variations for strawberry brownies
Like any other dessert, the strawberry brownie slices can be refined as desired. Here we have collected a few variations of the recipe that will allow you to adapt the brownie with strawberries to your own taste.
Chocolate cake with icing or cream
Although the classic brownie has no icing, it makes these delicious slices even tastier and gives them a completely new look. The possibilities are almost endless. For example, you can melt dark and white chocolate and drizzle fine lines over the cake. A delicious cream made from cream and cream cheese would also go perfectly with it. If you wish, you can also color the cream pink by folding in two tablespoons of strawberry puree. Here we share a simple recipe for cream cheese frosting.
Ingredients:
- 225 grams of cream cheese at room temperature
- 80 grams of butter at room temperature
- 65 grams of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt
Preparation:
Place the cream cheese and butter in a bowl and beat with a hand mixer (or in a stand mixer with a whisk attachment) for about 2 minutes. It's important that the ingredients are at room temperature, otherwise you won't get the consistency of a cream. Once the mixture looks whipped, add the sugar, vanilla and salt and beat again until well combined.
If you want to make the strawberry taste even more intense, you can refine the dessert with fresh strawberries. Since the brownie is usually very sweet, its taste is perfectly complemented by the slightly sour strawberries. However, if you would like to sweeten the strawberries a little, there is a very simple trick. Place the fruit in a bowl, sprinkle some granulated or icing sugar over it and set aside for 15 minutes. The strawberries absorb the sugar and become sweeter.
Strawberry brownie cake for your birthday
A strawberry chocolate cake is perfect for a summer birthday. You can use the brownie cake recipe for the cake layers and prepare a delicious cream with mascarpone as a filling and coating. If you like it even more chocolatey, you can cover the cake with homemade chocolate ganache. To decorate the cake, you can combine fresh strawberries with other types of berries. The shape of the chocolate cake with strawberries doesn't necessarily have to be round. Using a heart springform pan you can design the cake bases like hearts. The heart shape can also be achieved without a heart shape, like usin this articleshow.
