Today we'll show you a few recipes and give you ideas on how you can make the muffins for school.

Regardless of whether you decorate the muffins as they are or whether you add cream to them and turn them into cupcakes - with the right decorations you get little treats that fit the theme perfectly and make your little one even prouder. Here are some great ideas for muffins for starting school:

Muffins for school enrollment in the shape of apples

You've probably noticed that the red apple is a symbol of starting school. But do you actually know why? There have been times when a child's readiness for school was tested in interesting ways. The child was offered an apple and a guilder to choose from. If he picked up an apple, it meant that he wasn't ready for school yet because he was choosing to satisfy his needs quickly. However, if it preferred the guilder, it meant that it was already able to postpone its needs and it could appreciate the value of money. So it was ready for school.

You can use the apple wonderfully as a symbol for starting school and therefore also for the muffins for starting school. One of our ideas is made with a red cream, so you essentially end up with cupcakes for the first day of school. This is how the little tarts are made:

Red cream idea

First bake the chocolate muffins in paper cases in the muffin baking tray. Then color white cream (e.g. vanilla cupcake frosting or buttercream) red and spread it onto the cooled muffins using a pastry bag. You can then sprinkle the cream with red sugar. To complete the apple look, stick a short piece of pretzel stick into the cream and a mint leaf.

Muffins for school enrollment shaped like apples

The next muffins for school are not completely round, but rather slightly shaped like apples. To do this, simply place the muffin cases in the baking tray and insert a small ball of aluminum foil between the paper cases and the tray. Then prepare vanilla or chocolate muffins as desired and let them cool. Then prepare any frosting you like and color it red with food coloring. Then insert a pretzel stick into the area where the aluminum foil was while you create the leaves out of green jelly beans or mint leaves.

Make muffins with fondant for school enrolment

Notebooks as decoration for muffins for school

These muffin decorations for starting school are also very nice.Made from fondantA copybook is recreated and the beige pieces of the well-known Scrabble game are made. In addition to fondant, you will need:

  • Rolling pin or wooden stick
  • edible glue (e.g. icing)
  • round cookie cutter, roughly the same diameter as the muffins (or a glass)
  • small square cookie cutter
  • edible colored pencils in light blue, red and black

Roll out the white fondant with the rolling pin and cut out circles. Set them aside to firm up a bit (the firmer, the easier they will be to paint later; overnight would be optimal). Using the rolling pin (in the role of a ruler) you can then draw the lines on the circles: several light blue ones horizontally and one red one vertically on the left. Do not press too hard as the fondant will give way under pressure.

Then cut out the small squares with the cookie cutter, let them dry and label them with letters and the respective number of points. Glue the squares onto the circles, leaving a little space so that you can label the circles as you wish. Then you can put a cream on the muffins for schooling and fix the circles on top. Complete!

Make edible crayons

Aren't these crayons really cute? You can easily make them yourself by following the recipe below. They are not only great for designing muffins for school, but also for other baked goods. All you need is fondant in the colors you want and gel frosting, including black. This is how they are made:

First form balls of about 3.5 cm in size from the fondant, which you then roll back and forth on your worktop to create small rolls. Then take each roll and use your finger and thumb to form the tip. Then use black gel frosting to create two lines above this tip, after which you can distribute the wax crayons on the prepared muffins or cupcakes. You can then use colored gel frosting to paint a few squiggly lines on the cakes so that it looks as if someone had painted them with the wax crayons.

Muffins for school enrollment – books made from fondant

For these cute books to decorate the muffins for school, all you need is basically red and blue fondant as well as white marshmallows and a small rectangular cookie cutter. Optionally, you can also print letters or numbers on the books. Clay stamps are very suitable for this. Roll out fondant and stamp the numbers or letters anywhere. Then cut out a rectangle using the stamp as your guide. The numbers/letters should ideally be in the top right corner.

Turn the rectangle over, brush it with a little water, place a piece of marshmallow on one half of the fondant and fold the other half over it. The first book is ready and you can then use it to design muffins or cupcakes. These books can also be combined with our other ideas for wax crayons, rulers or erasers.

Fondant pencils

Use plain fondant to make cute pencils like this. In the instructions you can see how these are done step by step. Roll yellow fondant into a ball and then roll out like a roll. Form a small cone out of skin-colored fondant and attach it to one of the ends of the roll. At the other end, fix a red ball that represents the eraser. You hide the transition between eraser and pencil under a gray strip of fondant. You can use icing to stick them onto the school muffins.

Idea with ruler and eraser

Use ready-made candies to make great muffin decorations. These rulers made of waffles and erasers made of chewing gum fit the theme perfectly and make the muffins especially pretty for starting school. In addition, the decoration is extremely easy to imitate because you use ready-made products. Here's how:

  • Vanilla wafers
  • rectangular, pink chewing gum, chewy candies or marshmallows
  • black gel frosting or melted chocolate coating
  • black, edible colored pencil

You can use the gel frosting or the chocolate melted in a water bath to add lines to the waffles and set them aside for now. Then take the candy for the erasers and label them with the word “eraser.” However, this step is optional. Then distribute the finished decorations on the prepared muffins or cupcakes and they are ready to serve and eat!

Decoration with colorful sprinkles for cupcakes

The muffins for starting school don't necessarily have to be decorated with specific motifs. A few bright colors are enough to create the right mood for the occasion with these small desserts. And sprinkles are particularly suitable for this purpose. To decorate the muffins with them, you can use any muffin recipe. But it's best to choose ones with light-colored dough so that they can show off well.

After you have prepared the dough, simply stir in the sprinkles. For 4 school muffins, 2 heaped tablespoons of streusel are sufficient. Most recipes are for 12 muffins, so in this case add 6 tablespoons. Bake the cupcakes as usual. If you want, you can also add a cream after they have cooled and decorate them with sprinkles as well.
