Simple recipe for parrot cake with sour cream

  • 300 g Flour
  • 300g sugar
  • 250 g Margarine
  • 4 Owner
  • 250 ml sour cream
  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • Food coloring in any color (e.g. red, green, blue and yellow)
  • Zuckerstreusel

Preheat the oven to 160 degrees. First, mix the margarine with the eggs and sugar. Then add the baking powder and gradually the flour. Divide the resulting dough into four roughly equal parts, place them in different bowls and color each one with the four food colors. A few drops should be enough. The more drops you add, the stronger the color will be. Mix each dough well again with the mixer to distribute the color evenly.

Now prepare your baking pan. Use a tray or a larger tin, grease it well and then spread larger blobs of each color alternately until the entire tray is covered. For muffin tins, make smaller dollops, preferably with a teaspoon. Then bake the cake on the lowest rack for about 25 minutes so that it doesn't brown too much on top.

Finally, prepare icing from powdered sugar, water and lemon juice, which you will use to decorate the cooled cake. Before it hardens, spread the sprinkles. Recipe without sour cream

  • 350 g Flour
  • 5 Owner
  • 300g sugar
  • 175 g Margarine
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 175 ml fruit lemonade (Sprite, Fanta, with raspberry or others)
  • Food coloring in any color
  • Cake icing and sprinkles

Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Beat the eggs and gradually add the sugar and vanilla sugar and stir until frothy. Add margarine, mix flour and baking powder and add to the mixture. Mix everything together well. Finally stir in the lemonade. Divide the dough into four or five parts. As a fifth color, you can mix orange from yellow and red. Spread the dough in the form of blobs in a baking pan (see recipe with sour cream) and bake for about an hour using top and bottom heat. Then let it cool and decorate with white chocolate icing and sprinkles. If you still want to enrich the recipe to get a juicier cake, simply add a cup to the dough before stirring in the lemonade.

Colorful cake with red jelly and no food coloring

  • 350 g Flour
  • 350g sugar
  • 350 g Margarine
  • 6 Owner
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • grated zest of a whole lemon and the juice of half a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 packet of red jelly
  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar
  • Streusel

Mix the flour, sugar, margarine, vanilla sugar, salt and baking powder together and then gradually add the eggs. Divide the finished dough into three parts. Mix the first part with the peel and theJuice of lemon, the second with the red jelly and the third with the cocoa powder. Spread the three colors in blobs on a tray or in a baking tin and bake at 180 degrees for about 20 minutes. Depending on the baking pan, more time may have to be allowed for. Simply check with a toothpick sample. Let the cake cool and spread with icing made from powdered sugar, juice from the other lemon half and water and decorate with sprinkles if desired.

GDR parrot cake without food coloring

  • 300 g Butter
  • 250g sugar
  • 6 Owner
  • 400 g Flour
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 packet of vanilla pudding powder
  • 1 packet of chocolate pudding powder
  • 1 packet of red fruit jelly with raspberry flavor
  • 1 packet of green jelly with woodruff flavor

Since there was no food coloring in the GDR, the colors had to be conjured up in other ways. Red jelly and jelly were two of the options. The colors will be paler than with food coloring, but that doesn't make the cake any less attractive. Maybe you're even looking for a version in pastel colors?

The parrot cake from the GDR is also very easy to make. First stir the soft butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat each egg individually and add it to the sugar-butter mixture and mix well. The first is mixed with vanilla pudding, the second with chocolate pudding, the third with jelly and the fourth with red jelly.
