Today we're also using the hot air fryer because it can't just fry fries and vegetables. It can even be sweet and since there are tons of cherries around right now, a cherry cake in the air fryer would be ideal, right?
Never baked in the air fryer before? This is what you should know
Manufacturers usually mention in their manual that the device is actually suitable for baking. Are you still not sure about baking time and form?
Which baking dishes are allowed in the hot air fryer?
Roughly speaking, hot air fryers are actually mini ovens. In principle, they work with recirculated air, just in a smaller space, which saves time and energy costs. Accordingly, you can use any baking pan that you would use in a normal oven, because they work at the same temperatures.
How long do you bake in the air fryer?
Since the heat is concentrated in a smaller space, preheating alone is much quicker than in a normal oven. Depending on the model, the device reaches the desired temperature after just 2 to 4 minutes. So you don't have to remember to turn on the deep fryer before or during the preparation of the dough.
Once you have reached the desired heat, you should generally plan the baking time to be about half the time it takes in an oven. This is because the air circulates in a smaller space and differently, which shortens the baking time. But even then, it is advisable to always keep an eye on the cake, because it may be ready quicker. You can test this with the toothpick sample.

Prepare cherry cake with sponge cake and vanilla
Start with the cherry sauce. While this is simmering, you can prepare the cake batter to save time.
- Place all of the cherry filling ingredients in a saucepan.
- Mix everything together well.
- Heat the pot over medium heat.
- In between, stir everything from time to time and prepare the batter.
A notice:The cherry filling is ready when the fruit is lightly browned, softened and the sauce is thick (approx. 15 minutes). Then take them off the heat so they can cool down a little.
The dough for the lightning cherry cake:
- Put all the dough ingredients directly into a bowl.
- Mix them together with a wooden spoon or a whisk.
- Grease the baking pan (approx. 20 cm).
- Spread the dough in the mold.
Bake the cherry cake in the Airfryer:
- Turn on the air fryer and set it to 160 degrees.
- While it is heating up, add the cherries to the batter, which should be done and cooled down a bit by now. Just drop them, one tablespoon at a time, into the dough.
- Bake the cherry pie in the air fryer for 20 to 25 minutes until the top begins to turn brown. Use the toothpick to test whether the dough is ready. To do this, choose a place where there are no cherries, because the dough will be wetter there, which could make it seem like it isn't ready yet.
It is best to serve the cherry sponge cake with vanilla ice cream or, if you prefer, with whipped cream.
Cool tip:You can also prepare a vanilla pudding and then spoon it into the dough by the tablespoonful. This is how you get a creamy cherry pudding cake.
