The world premiere of the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé was at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Building on the M8 sports coupe introduced in 2017, the four-door version impresses with sportiness while conveying a feeling of luxury. The M8 Gran Coupé presents the brand's new design language, in which a lively, multifaceted surface play emphasizes its dynamism. Additionally, the conceptual model shows that the letter “M” stands for “More” in every sense.
“The upcoming BMW 8 Series will be the new leader in the markethighest sportinessand elegance combined. The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé offers a glimpse of the most exotic and fascinating production version of the new BMW 8 Series,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design.
Even at first glance you can see the outstanding driving performance of the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé. The muscularly modeled surfaces and the precise contours on the hood indicate the power under the hood. The exclusive gold-framed BMW kidneys, however, which are stretched towards the road, emphasize the vehicle's low center of gravity. The headlights are placed slightly higher than the grille to create visual depth.
“The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé is intended to shake up, polarize and stimulate emotions. With the vehicle we want to reach people who are looking for something special and want to stand out from the crowd. With this vehicle, the BMW M series presents an independent understanding of luxury,” explains Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design at BMW M and BMW i.
Characterized by precise lines that underline the sculpted surfaces, the side profile of the sports car actually shows how its elegance intertwines with its strong presence. Extended bonnet, flowing roofline and short rear section: the long wheelbase defines a sporty silhouette.
The “Saléve Vert” paint finish was chosen for the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé. Depending on the incidence of light, the color varies from green to gray-blue and optimally highlights the play of the surfaces. The short tail features flat, three-dimensionally shaped taillights with black glass that increase its width, presence and dynamism. The gold accents such as window frames, tailpipes, kidney frames and rims give the vehicle an equally striking appearance.
