Porsche electric car Mission E: The first purely electrically powered production model from Porsche

At the International Motor Show, abbreviated IAA 2015, Porsche presented its concept for a fully electric sports car “Mission E”. The first Porsche electric car should appear on the market as a series model in 2020. It is a four-door sports coupe with a 600 hp electric motor that does not consume a drop of gasoline and has a range of 500 kilometers, while offering the highest level of performance. This is guaranteed by the manufacturer. What else can we expect from the new Porsche? Does it really come from the future? We have the latest information about the new factory in Zuffenhausen.

In an interview, the new Porsche boss Oliver Blume announced that the new Porsche electric car is coming to the streets to open a new chapter in sports car history. It was intended to transfer the Porsche driving experience to an electric car and thus completely meet customers' expectations of a Porsche model. Mission E should be like a918 Spyderbe in E mode.

The electric sports car

For the first tests under winter conditions on the Nordschleife, the technical components of the new Porsche electric car were installed under the sheet metal of the modified Panamera body. A new sports coupé is currently being developed. A special highlight is the door concept - two doors that open in opposite directions without a B pillar. However, this will not go into series production, but the aim is to have a similar design.

The new Mission E

Initially, Volkswagen's EV platform was to be used, but a new electric platform is being built for the new Porsche electric car. It aims for a range of 500 km and a quick charge of the battery for 15 minutes. However, Porsche is aware that there is currently no suitable charging infrastructure that can deliver this performance. The state, and not just Germany but also other countries, should invest in improving the charging infrastructure and thus promote electromobility. The priority should be on a fast charging network with over 150 kW of power per charging station.

In terms of design, the new Porsche electric car is reminiscent of the 911 and Panamera at the same time. The body of the four-door sports coupe is made of aluminum, steel and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. Numerous air inlets and outlets are incorporated into the front, side and rear, which should significantly improve aerodynamics and therefore efficiency. At the front, Mission E is equipped with matrix LED headlights in four points. A narrow, dark strip of light under a spoiler tail creates the sports car appearance at the rear. The 21 and 22 inch wheels are made of carbon fiber laminate.

A highlight of the entire sports coupé concept was definitely the opposite-hinged doors, which make the interior and getting in much easier, but are not feasible in series production. What makes a special impression in the interior are the leather-upholstered sports seats, which are installed in the same shape at the front and back. A narrow center console with an integrated touch pad connects the two areas of the coupé. The driver's workplace, which is designed similarly to the 918 Spyder, looks particularly impressive. Numerous displays behind the steering wheel provide driving information, data and images from the external cameras. Of course, the new Porsche electric car is networked and so passengers can go online while driving. The manufacturer remains true to one special feature in the future-oriented models - the left start button.
