Everything revolves around the Advent wreaths, because the countdown is on - the first Advent is in less than a week and at least the wreath with its flickering candles should be ready by then! Can you hardly wait to welcome the magical Advent season with the beautifully decorated table? Make a beautiful model yourself in just a few steps. And since the trend in recent years has been towards modern, we will show you a few beautiful variants. This is how you can design a trendy Advent wreath in red and modern style!
The red poinsettia as the main element in the wreath
The poinsettia looks incredibly beautiful and is one in oneClassics in Christmas decorationsbecome. So why not use it to design an Advent wreath in a red and modern way? This is what you need for the simple project:
- 6 red, artificial poinsettias
- Wreath blank made of floral foam
- Dried flowers/grasses of your choice in red or similar color
- Plug-in candle holder
- matching candles
A notice:If you use real flowers, you will need to moisten the floral foam later so that the flowers last a long time. For this reason, you then need a suitable (waterproof) surface, such as a plate, a tray or something similar. Keep in mind that the real flowers probably won't last until Christmas Eve and you may need to replace them.
Place the ring in front of you and insert the candle holders into it at even intervals. Cut or peel the flowers from the artificial plants and insert them into the foam to cover the free areas between the candle holders. Then add a few more here and thereDried flowers and grassesin between to provide more texture.
Now put the Advent candles in the candle holders and you can start the first Advent! These do not necessarily have to be red as in the example. Simple, white candles are also ideal (if you want a red and white Advent wreath, for example).
Cool Advent wreath ideas in red – craft idea with a wooden star
If you find a ready-made metal frame for the candles, you can recreate such a model with a little skill. You need wooden dowels and other small wooden cylinders in different (two) sizes, which you arrange around the frame of the taper candle holder in the shape of star points. For this purpose, you can also print out a star motif and use it as a base/stencil on which you can then arrange the wooden elements. Leave space in the middle of three of the five pointsfor test tubes, which will serve as vases for the poinsettia flowers.
Glue the wooden elements together with glue or hot glue and decorate with the flowers and a few sprigs of fir greenery to create a modern, minimalist design. Isn't that red enough for you? Spray the wooden star with red spray paint!

Advent wreath in red and green on a glass vase
Get a glass vase that you can fill with small Christmas balls and/or other decorations. The container should have a slightly smaller circumference than the wreath you will be using so that it can rest firmly. As explained in the first instructions, make an Advent wreath with candle holders, red poinsettias and additional greenery (e.g. eucalyptus leaves). Then hot glue the blank to the edge of the vase (or just place it on top if the wreath will then be in a safe place where it won't be knocked over, or if you doUse LED candles). Put the candles in the holders and you're done!

Make an elongated Advent arrangement in a tray with moss
Fill a tray or box with floral foam and glue artificial moss onto it. Insert metal candle holders with nails for pillar candles in a row and distribute red Christmas tree balls and any other decorations around them by attaching them with hot glue. Put the candles on the nails. We recommend using candles of different heights for a more modern and versatile look. Red candles in particular would look good in this Advent wreath.
Idea in Bordeaux with dried flowers
If you prefer the red tone to be a little more subdued, Bordeaux is exactly the right choice. This color creates a calmer atmosphere than the strong red tone, without being inferior in any way to your preferred color. If you want to do without the good old pine green this year, you can use dried flowers and plants for a more modern alternative. Use any wreath blank and tie or pin the flowers with floral wire or ivy pins.
This variant with red moss is anything but traditional, but interesting and beautiful. A real eye-catcher, without question, which would also suit a maritime interior. It's so quick and easy to make:
- red artificial moss
- Straw wreath
- Floral wire/ivy needles
- Candle holders and matching candles
- Glitter spray or clear varnish and glitter as desired (e.g. gold spray for an Advent wreath in red and gold)
- maybe hot glue
Insert the candle holders into the wreath, fixing them with hot glue if necessary. Gradually spread moss over the wreath and pin it in place with the pins. Now you can add a little sparkle with the glitter spray to make the red Advent wreath look a little more festive. Add the stick candles to the Advent wreath and you're done.
Tipp:You can also use real moss. In this case, it is best to finish with the clear varnish + glitter variant, as this way you can preserve the plants and make them last longer.
