Hairstyle trend 2022: This summer we're all wearing Scandi waves

Just like in the fashion world, trends in the hairstyle world keep coming back. Be it the mullet or the grunge style, there are many great hair trends from previous years that we also love in 2022. This also includes the cool S-shaped waves, which are a total hit, especially with long hair. The trend for 2022 is 'Scandi Waves' or Scandinavian waves, and as the name suggests, they come from this region of Northern Europe that has become the new paradigm of fashion. You can find out more about the trend, as well as tips on how to create the look yourself, in the article.

What do the trendy Scandi waves look like?

The Scandi waves have been around for a while, but we're glad they're finally getting the moment they deserve. If you're wondering what this trendy hairstyle consists of, think Hollywood waves with the usual loose kink but with a touch of structure. In contrast, Scandinavian waves are also styled closer together. The hairstyle is a modern version of the Hollywood wave - only looser and with a casual, undone look.

We have Sophie Turnerpray there MET Galaand Zendaya every other day of the week giving us that pliable yet sublime "S" curl - with a real Y2K feel. And we understand why this hairstyle has had all the girls googling how to do curls with a straightener. It looks a bit casual, but is still a statement.

Scandinavian waves are the perfect hairstyle trend for summer 2022

The Scandinavian waves are also a sophisticated version of the beach wavesbe in trend every summer. The hair doesn't have to be textured or even heated - there are different techniques for this.

The idea is to create curls that are tighter than beach waves but less artificial than a Hollywood wave. With Scandi Waves, the wave is practically born from the root, as if imitating the behavior of naturally wavy hair.

How to recreate the Scandi wave look yourself

If the architectural manes that we see on the red carpets require multiple hands and hairpieces, the Scandinavian waves are a hit precisely because of their simplicity. There are a few ways to achieve this look. We'll show you two - one with and one without heat. One faster, the other longer, but both are so easy that you don't need professional styling.

This is how the Scandi Waves can be achieved without heat

If you have yourCurls without heatIf you want to do this, you can create the wavy look if you sleep with your hair braided. Depending on your hair structure, it may be beneficial to braid not just one braid, but several, with thinner strands to create more small waves and that effect reminiscent of mermaid waves. Another tip: slightly dampen your hair before braiding. You can also do the braids after washing your hair. This definitely makes the waves more structured.

The next morning, simply untie the braids and comb the hair with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Finally, use a drying oil or conditioning oil for extra shine and moisture.

How to style wavy hair with a curling iron or straightener

To create this look, you can also use a special triple curling iron or wave iron. This means you can recreate the casual Scandi waves quickly and without much effort.

However, it is not absolutely necessary to buy a special styling device to get the trendy curls. This look can also be created with a straightener. Here's how:

  1. Start by pinning the top section of your hair up, leaving out the bottom inch or two of hair so the top section doesn't get in the way.
  2. To create the S wave, start by pulling up the first strand of hair and using your fingers to push your hair into the first curve.
  3. Once the curve is in shape, take the flat iron and gently tap the curve to set the shape.
  4. From here, you can either push the hair further into the next counter curve (creating the first "S" shape) or you can drop the flat iron and use both hands to maintain the shape. Tap the flat iron over this new curve. Repeat this process until you get to the ends of your hair.
  5. Repeat the process for each individual strand of hair.
  6. Things can get a little tricky in the back, but if you put a mirror in front of you and behind you, it will make it a little easier.
  7. Use your favorite styling product and run your fingers through your hair to loosen and separate the waves.

The most important thing about the Scandi Wave is that you only have to tap the straightener along the S wave without holding it in the S shape for a long time. Since certain straighteners reach heat of 200 degrees or more, you also need to use heat protection.
