This fascinating house was built in 2016 by Malan Vorster architectural firm. It is located in Constantia, a southern suburb of Cape Town, and covers a total area of 117 m². Inspired by the beautiful forest landscape in the area, the client suggested that the architecture resemble a treehouse. The architects let the four cylindrical buildings grow like trees and together form an unusual house. Since the property is located on a slight slope, the construction on stilts enabled undisturbed, enjoyable views of the beautiful landscape. The tree house made of wood and glass blends harmoniously into the surroundings and is a real refuge of peace for the residents.
Thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows you have an uninterrupted viewdifferent directions. On the outside, the glass facade is clad with red cedar slats. They protect the privacy of the residents without affecting the view. In the center of each cylinder there are four supporting columns that are further connected with arms and rings to support the floor at the top. These supporting elements are all made of laser-cut Corten steel and are connected to the wooden floor using hand-turned brass parts.
All materials used are untreated. The architects' intention was for them to weather naturally over time so that the wood and glass treehouse could harmonize even better with the living trees in the surrounding area.
A steel ramp made of wood and Corten steel leads to the entrance to the house. From there you get to the ground floor, where there is the spacious living area with kitchen. Each of the four cylinders has a different function: a cozy seating area with a fireplace, a dining area and a spiral staircase that connects the different levels. On the upper floor there is the bedroom with bathroom. At the top you can enjoy the warm rays of sunshine on a large roof terrace. TheThe furnishings seem rather reserved, while the focus is more on the local natural beauty.
