The oatmeal trick straight from Sweden
So what do Swedes do differently when cooking their oatmeal? In the Scandinavian countriesoften cooked with a small amount of oat flour - not just oat flakes. The ground oat flour dissolves even better in milk, releases additional starch into the oatmeal and ensures that the porridge has a thick, creamy consistency.
The recommended mixing ratio is to use around 3/4 oat flakes and 1/4 oat flour. Boil this mixture as usual with milk or a milk alternative, add your toppings and your heavenly, delicious breakfast is ready.
Make your own oat flour: This is how it works
You can get the oat flour for your creamy oat flakes in organic markets, drugstores and now also in most supermarkets. But you can also make it yourself very easily.
All you need is oatmeal and a stand mixer (like this one from Amazon*). Add the desired amount and shred the dry flakes until a fine flour is formed. It is best to store this in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
