In the pouring rain or in ice and snow by bike or walking to the train, even though your own car is at the door - it may sound absurd but is a reality for many. Because the fear of driving is so great that you avoid it whenever possible.
Usually you just drive too rarely or maybe let your partner sit at the wheel for convenience, and so it is no wonder that uncertainties and fears slowly creep in. Many have hardly driven for years and are now afraid to drive at all. And of course it doesn't get any better.
Are you similar? Do you alone hate the idea of driving on a highway, changing traces or - oh god - parking? Have you ever come out of exercise in recent years? Then take a deep breath and face your problem.
Even if we should leave the car as often as possible due to the exhaust gases and the catastophal CO2 values in the cities, as often as possible, driving is also a certain freedom for each of us. And it would be a shame if we didn't enjoy them from time to time just because we developed fears while driving.
We have put together a few tips for you with which you can finally tackle your fear of driving!
Fear of driving in the city
Depending on where you have got your driver's license, driving in the (large) city can be quite scary: in thick traffic over several traces, change the road quickly, traffic lights, pedestrians, buses and cyclists must be observed and to make it evil You don't know exactly where you have to drive because it is just teeming with one -way streets ... Help!
SO FLOCKS'S:Unfortunately, only one thing helps: practice, practice, practice. And preferably late in the evening or on a holiday when the traffic is not so tight. Grab a friend who routinely drives or dares on the slopes alone - and then you practice everything you don't dare. Little by little you dare to get more and more denser traffic - and you will notice: The secret is actually: Exercise makes the master!
Fear of driving on the highway
Have you ever wondered why you spend comparatively a few driving lessons on the highway in the driving school, even though there are so many people in front of it? Actually, the answer is obvious: driving on the highway is much easier than meandering, for example, through dense city traffic.
You do not have to turn and rarely change lanes, there are no traffic lights, bicycles or pedestrians ... However, there is a fear here the high speed, accelerating on the driveway, trucks and nasty jingle.
SO FLOCKS'S:Try to stay calm! Do not become restless or unsure. The most important bid on the highway is: determination! As when driving in the city, you should practice at times when there is little traffic. Or initially take exercise trips on little -traveled motorways.
Run up and down again, stop at rest areas and practice, on the often short acceleration strips, change traces and make yourself aware that the right -hand driving law is on the left in Germany (so do not stick on the left lane! Problem with annoying dränglers).
If you are slowly feeling safer, take a friend in the car who can support you in the event of uncertainties, remind you of your shoulder view and talk about you calmly when you get panic next to a truck.

Fear of driving while parking
A great fear topic: parking. The bad news first: You can't get around it, because somewhere you have to park and not every gap is huge and the road rarely unpolluted. The good news: you can learn to park pretty quickly (yes, you can easily get that without parking aid!).
SO FLOCKS'S:If you are completely unspern, you can train courage and technology on a so -called "traffic training area". Everyone else practices in quiet side streets - and like this: stop parallel to the parking space and make sure that the length fits - it should be about 1.5 times as long as your car. Then drive up until your passenger window is approximately at the level of the park of the parked car.
Turn the steering wheel around about once until your tires are 45 degrees to the gap and carefully reset. You look over your right shoulder back into the corner of the rear, which is on the side of the parking space.
Drive back until you look behind you in the extension of this corner through the rear window at the headlight of the car (meaning the headlight, which is located on the sidewalk side). Then you hit the other direction and park. Try it out, always work!
Fear of driving: What to do if I can't overcome it?
Did you try everything, but you won't get your fear of driving still under control? Then there are different ways for you, how you can still control a car at least halfway relaxed at some point:
- In many cities there are driving schools that specialize in such cases. Here you can always practice your worst fear of driving instructors with the help of specially trained driving instructors.
- If you are afraid of something very special, such as about spinning or snow, there are special driving training that is offered by the TÜV or ADAC.
- If you had an accident and is therefore afraid, you should definitely look for help from a psychologist. With a few hours you can reach a lot there!
