To remove moss from the joints of the terrace or yard, you should use this simple home remedy instead of expensive green growth removers.

After the winter break, gardening starts again in spring. The cold and rainy weather during this time may have caused unwanted greenery to spread between the terrace joints, on the house wall or on garden paths: moss.

Moss is not only unsightly, but also really annoying. The overgrown greenery can cause real damage, especially on house facades. The moisture can penetrate the walls over time. Fortunately, there are a few simple home remedies that can help you get weeds under control.

Cola is an effective home remedy for moss

Who would have thought that the caffeinated soft drink from the fridge would also help against moss? This is due to the phosphoric acid it contains. It works against moss and even prevents new growth.

Small areas overgrown with moss on stones and joints as well as algae deposits on roller shutters, for example, can be easily cleaned with Cola, even reports sayMy beautiful garden. However, the sticky home remedy is rather unsuitable for larger areas.

This is how you use the home remedy in the garden:

1. Apply the cola undiluted to the moss-covered areas and rub the drink in with a sponge, cloth or brush. Tip: You can get into hard-to-reach places on house facades using a spray bottle filled with the drink, for example. Let the whole thing sink in for a bit.

2. Then rinse the cola thoroughly with clean water. After all, you don’t want to attract ants or wasps.

3. The moss should now be easy to remove with a brush. Remember to fill joints in the terrace or on garden paths with sand or joint compound afterwards so that no other weeds can settle there.

Potato and pasta water works against moss

Another home remedy from the kitchen: cooking water from pasta and potatoes. The only important thing here is that the water is not salted. The cooking water contains starch, which clogs the plant pores of the weeds.

To do this, pour the unsalted, still hot pasta or potato water onto the areas covered with moss. After a few days you can sweep away the dead weeds. Disadvantage of this method: Only the upper part of the moss dies. In order to get rid of moss on the terrace in the long term, you have to repeat this method several times.
