Goosebumps guaranteed: This novel by thriller master Riley Sager is perfect for dark winter evenings.
For me, there is hardly anything better than sitting on the sofa on a rainy evening with a steaming cup of tea and immersing yourself in a gripping thriller. I love being carried away by nerve-wracking stories and solving exciting puzzles together with the characters.
For everyone who feels the same way, I have an absolute heartfelt recommendation:“HOME – House of Evil Shadows” by Riley Sager*.
That's what the thriller with haunted house vibes is about
In “HOME – House of Evil Shadows” we accompany Maggie Holt, who grew up as a child in an old, supposedly cursed mansion. Her father, who has since died, has processed the horrifying experiences from that time into a bestseller that portrays the house as a place of the supernatural.
But Maggie doesn't believe in the ghost stories - until she returns as an adult and realizes that there may be more to the dark shadows of the past than she thought...
What follows is a mixture of classic haunted house horror and psychological thriller, in which the line between reality and imagination is constantly blurred.
Sager knows how to create an oppressive atmosphere, while at the same time using surprising twists to ensure that you hardly want to put the book down. It is not without reason that the author is now known as a true thriller master and regularly ends up on various bestseller lists.
Normally I'm really tough and I also like to watch the odd horror film. But at“HOME – House of Evil Shadows”* (in English, by the way, “Home Before Dark”) the suspense is built up so well that I sometimes didn't dare to continue reading just before going to bed. So: turn on the lights, put some tea on and put this book on your reading list – it’s worth it!
