And if you make them just from the sleeves of the sweater, the task is super easy since they are already sewn. Find out how you can quickly and easily make really cozy and inexpensive fall decorations for your home and just ask yourself how many you want to make.

Necessary materials:

  • Old sweaters in any color you like
  • fiberfill
  • Nadel
  • Garnnadel
  • Scissors
  • thread
  • Yarn
  • Pumpkin stems
  • Hot glue gun

Easy Pumpkin Sweater Instructions:

  • First, prepare your sweater and cut the sleeves. Depending on the size of the sweater, you can make two pumpkins from one sleeve.
  • Use one of the sleeve pieces and a needle with a double knotted thread.
  • Turn it inside out and sew the end together. Then turn it right side out again.
  • Fill the pumpkin with fiberfill and secure it with thread.
  • Thread a piece of yarn and run the yarn through the middle of the pumpkin and wrap it around the sides. Pull as hard as you want to form the grooves. Leave a few inches of yarn for one end.
  • Tie the two ends of the twine together in a double knot and secure it to the top of the pumpkin using the hot glue gun.
  • Insert the chosen stem and secure it with the hot glue gun.
  • You can add lace, ribbons, and other embellishments to your pumpkins.

Tips:

  • For the stems, use twigs from the garden, real dried pumpkin stems, pieces of felt, cinnamon sticks, corksor pipe cleaners.
  • The size of the pumpkins depends on the size of the sweater. If you want to make small pumpkins, use children's sweaters. For larger fruits, get an XL men's sweater.
  • Experiment with different colors like white, cream, silver, or bright jewel tones, or go for one color and different textures, like a waffle knit, cable knit, or a ribbed sweater.
  • Add some dried beans to the bottom of the pumpkin before stuffing it with the stuffing. This will help the pumpkin hold its shape.
  • If you also want to use the body part of the sweater, cut out larger rectangles and sew them into tubes.

2023 fall decoration: no-sew pumpkin

To make pumpkins from sweaters that you don't have to sew at all and are also suitable for crafting with children, you can use a Styrofoam pumpkin instead of stuffing. Just be sure to use sweaters with a lot of texture for the best results.

To make sure you have a long enough piece of sweater sleeve, measure the Styrofoam pumpkin from the stem to the bottom center and add about 10 cm.

Cut a 2.5 cm diameter hole at the top and bottom of the Styrofoam pumpkin. Then simply wrap the ends of the sweater sleeve and tuck them into the pumpkin.

Attach a cork to the top of the pumpkin using the hot glue gun or use another stem of your choice.
