Instructions for making a piñata:
- Prepare the mixture. We'll need him. What is the best homemade oneGlue for paper mache? Mix one part flour with one part water (e.g. 1 cup flour and 1 cup water or 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup water) until you get a thick, glue-like consistency. Add a little more water if the mixture is too thick. Stir well with a spoon to remove any lumps.
- Now make the base of the piñata. Tear paper or newspaper into strips. Inflate the balloon to the desired size. Glue the paper to the ball with the homemade paste. Use newspaper for the first layers. The number of layers depends on the thickness required. The bigger the child, the stronger the piñata. If you use newspaper, 5 to 6 layers are enough. After gluing the individual layers, you have to let the craft dry completely. For the final layer, use white paper. Allow the piñata to dry thoroughly. This can take a few days. If you don't want to wait that long, use a hairdryer. Once your piñata is dry, remove the balloon. Poke it with an awl and pull it out.
- Sew the piñata closed with a ribbon, leaving the long ends standing. We secure them well inside using adhesive tape.
- Cut the crepe paper into strips and then into fringes. Glue the crepe paper by starting to tape the piñata from the bottom with the fringes facing up. A little effort and the piñata is ready.
