Roman chamomile – a prime example of lawn replacement
Shakespeare describes the masochistic tendencies of Roman chamomile: “the more it is trodden on, the faster it grows.” Since his statement is entirely true, the plant has been preferred to lawns by many gardeners. Caution: Unfortunately, it cannot withstand a lot of stress, such as children playing, all the time. So if you have opted for occasional ground cover plants, then this perennial will fit well into your garden.
Chamomile shows its popular white flowers from June to September. They grow to around 15 centimeters high and should be cut regularly. Only cut branches that grow upright. Roman chamomile spreads over time, so it is a suitable oneLawn edging recommended.
An open, sunny location is best for a chamomile lawn, although partial shade is also acceptable. As the most commonly used medicinal plant in Germany, chamomile flowers have a strong aroma. In order for the planting to be guaranteed to be successful, the soil must be prepared. Since chamomile prefers dry soil, loamy soil should be enriched with sand. Autumn and spring are also recommended as planting times for this ground cover.
