How often should you clean your windows?
To prevent dirt and grime from accumulating, windows should be cleaned at least twice a year.
A cloudy but not wet day is ideal for cleaning windows. Windows that are washed on hot, bright days will develop streaks because the cleaning solution evaporates too quickly.
Use a better cleaning solution – trick with vinegar
One of the best things you can do to clean your window panes yourself is to use a better cleaning solution. Many commercial window cleaning products are not as effective as the right combination of natural cleaning products. If you use this method and put in some effort, your windows will be noticeably cleaner. Clean your glass panes with vinegar! Vinegar is one of nature's most versatile remedies. Vinegar is an effective way to remove the film and dirt that accumulates on the glass - it is non-toxic and antibacterial. Simply mix warm water with vinegar.
You can also add dishwashing detergent to make your own stronger cleaning agent. Add dishwashing detergent to your water and vinegar mixture for a more thorough clean. Even the most stubborn stains can be removed with it.
Don't want to use vinegar? Then you can try another trick: because of its high tannic acid content, black tea can be used as a substitute for vinegar. Make a large pot of tea and set it aside to cool before you start cleaning the windows and mirrors.

Is a newspaper helpful?
Newspapers may have had their day, but theirspractical usein the household is unbroken. Wiping glass with newspaper can create a streak-free surface. Wearing gloves will protect your hands from paint spills.
Instructions
- Prepare the window cleaning mixture: Mix 500 ml hot water, 60 ml white vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing liquid in a plastic spray bottle. As an alternative, you can use 500 ml of black tea, as mentioned earlier.
- Remove dirt by sweeping window panes and window sills with a broom to remove cobwebs and other debris.
- Spray your windows with the solution and then rub them with a microfiber cloth in a circular motion to remove dirt and grime.
- To dry off the water and remove stains, use a second clean microfiber cloth or newspaper.

Get the outside of the windows clean again
It's inevitable that the outside of your home's windows will be dirtier than the inside, due to precipitation and wind-borne debris. In order to effectively clean exterior windows, some preparation is required. Remove the fly screens from the windows and wash them separately. Scrub gently with a sponge dipped in a mixture of dish soap and hot water. Rinse well with fresh water.
The next step is to remove dirt and stains with a hose or bucket of water. To access the glass panels on the second floor, you may need a ladder (if you live indoors). Get a professional if you don't feel comfortable standing on a ladder and holding a spray bottle. Clean the windows like the inside with a mixture of white vinegar and dishwashing detergent or with black tea. Wipe the windows dry by starting at the top and working your way down with a window squeegee. Reinstall the fly screens on the windows.
