Hairbrushes are an essential tool for maintaining healthy hair, but they also accumulate dirt, dust, oils, and hair products over time. Therefore, it is necessary to clean them regularly to maintain their effectiveness and hygiene. Here's how to clean your hairbrush and keep it in good condition.
Why should you clean your hairbrush?
A clean hairbrush ensures that your hair is free of dirt, making it look beautiful and healthy. A dirty brush can lead to a buildup of bacteria and fungi that can cause dandruff, infections, and other scalp problems. Additionally, a dirty hairbrush can make your hair look greasy and dull, which can affect your overall appearance.
When should you clean your hairbrush?
It is recommended to clean your hairbrush at least once a week, especially if you use it daily. However, if you have oily hair or use a lot of hair products, you mustpossibly clean more frequently. You should also clean your brush if you notice a buildup of hair, dirt, or product residue.
The following steps will guide you through the process of effectively cleaning your brush.
With vinegar or baking soda
Step 1: Remove hair
First, remove all hair from the hairbrush. You can use your fingers or a comb to loosen and pull out the hair. Do this carefully so as not to damage the bristles.
Step 2: Soak the brush
Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of shampoo or a teaspoon of baking soda. Place the hairbrush in the water and let it soak for about 10 minutes. The shampoo or baking soda will help break down product residue and oils on the brush.
Or you can add 500 ml of warm water, 250 ml of vinegar and a few drops of dishwashing detergent or shampoo to a container and let the brush soak.
Step 3: Scrub the bristles
After soaking the brush, use an old toothbrush or a clean brush to thoroughly scrub the bristles. Be sure to clean each bristle, including the base of the brush.
Step 4: Rinse the brush
After scrubbing, rinse the hairbrush with clean water to remove any soap, baking soda, or vinegar residue. You can also use a comb to remove any remaining debris or hair.
Step 5: Dry the brush
Gently pat the brush with a clean towel to remove excess water. Then let them air dry on a towel, bristle side down. Avoid drying the brush with a hair dryer as the heat can damage the bristles.
Clean brush made of boar bristles and wood
Step 1: Remove dust and hair
The first step again is to get rid of the hair and dirt. Clean your boar bristle brush of any hair, dust, and dirt that may have accumulated inside it. Remove the hair between the bristles with the narrow end of the rat tail comb or the serrated part of the comb. Work your way inward from the outer edges of the boar bristle brush.
Step 2: Prepare shampoo mixture
In the container, mix a few drops of shampoo with a little warm water to create a soapy mixture. The amount of water required depends on the condition of the bristles and the handle of the brush. If the handle of the brush is made of wood and has padding, you should fill the container so that the brush is not completely submerged. Make sure only the bristles are submerged. Rotate the brush around its axis a few times. Do not soak the brush for a long period of time.
Step 3: Rinse with water
To remove soap residue from the brush, rinse it in a little cold water. This will also remove any dirt and debris that may have come loose during the washing process.
Step 4: Allow to air dry
Repeat the process of combing the brush with the rat tail comb to ensure that itclean and free of dirt, dust and deposits. After shaking the brush to remove excess water, wipe it with a dry cloth and then place it in an airy place to dry on its own.
Clean hairbrush with shaving foam
Shaving cream is another option that can be used for cleaning. Although it may seem strange at first glance, the strategy is successful. Lather the brush with the shaving cream, wait a few minutes until it has completely absorbed the liquid and then rinse it briefly with a little water. To dry, place the brush again on a cloth with the bristles facing down.
Dishwasher or washing machine for cleaning
Before using this procedure, make sure that the hairbrush you want to clean is made of a durable material - for example plastic. Put the brush youwant to clean, in the top compartment of the dishwasher or put them in the cutlery basket.
When you use the washing machine, you can also throw other things into the machine. Not only is this better for the environment, but it also dampens the sound of the brush hitting the inside of the washing drum. Then always wash your clothes on a cold cycle. If you use too much hot water, the shape of your brush may change. Finally, either lay your brush flat in a well-ventilated area or hang it up so it can dry properly.
