Symptoms of mold exposure include a stuffy nose, sore throat, burning sensation in the eyes, a rash, and a coughing fit. Fungal infections can occur in patients with weakened immune systems, asthma, mold allergies, or lung disease, and reactions may be worse in these people. Additionally, it is possible that some people have a higher threshold for mold than others.

Note the following: Wood's structure is compromised when mold grows on it, leading to rot and other problems. Over time, wood and most other materials are damaged by moisture, the cause of mold. The sooner you identify and fix the problem, the better.

What do you need?

To remove mold from your cutting board, stock up on the following items:

  • White vinegar
  • baking powder
  • lemon
  • Salt
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Scouring pad or soft-bristled brush
  • Paper towels

Instructions

First step:First, clean the cutting board and use baking soda with vinegar.

  • After coating the wooden cutting board with baking soda, spray it with pure vinegar. As you spray, the solution should react and form bubbles. Soak the cutting board in vinegar for 10 minutes. Vinegar eliminates germs and mold and baking powder (or baking soda)removes stains from the cracksof the cutting board.
  • After the 10 minutes, carefully remove the loose dirt with a brush. Before you put your cutting board away to dry, give it a quick rinse under cold water. You can wash the board with dishwashing detergent to get rid of the vinegar smell, but that's not necessary because the smell will disappear when it dries.

Second step:Successfully remove mold with lemon and salt.

  • Take half a lemon and scrub the wooden board with salt and the half lemon: To ensure that the lemon juice gets into all the cracks that the knife made in the wooden board, squeeze it over the entire surface. Also add a good portion of salt. Scrub the wooden cutting board using circular motions. You can use the salt as a scouring pad to remove the dirt trapped in the pores of the wooden cutting board. While the lemon removes dirt and grime, it leaves behind a fresh, pleasant aroma and is safe for food handling. Then use a scouring pad to successfully remove the mold stains and dirt. This process eliminates the mold and deodorizes the air.
  • After rinsing the board with cold water, place it upright on the drying rack to allow it to air dry completely. To remove extra moisture from wooden cutting boards, you can use a paper towel. Alternatively, you can simply store the board upright after it is dry.

Cool tip:You can also use this trick to clean and remove mold from other wooden kitchen utensils: spatulas, wooden spoons, chopsticks, meat tenderizer, etc.
