The team of architects from 2B.group was commissioned to design an apartment for a young, discerning single that combines authentic elements with modern shapes and textures. The apartment should be designed to provide the necessary comfort for both a single person and partners. The apartment, called Pushka, renovated in 2018, extends over 180 square meters and two floors in a listed residential area in Kiev. An old masonry hidden under layers of plaster, old ceiling beams and sloping ceilings was paired with the purity of modernity in this year's renovation project. The Pushka Apartment is comfortable, fresh and authentic, modern and sophisticated at the same time.
Old brickwork and ceiling beams create an impressive contrast to the modern elements
The challenge for the architects was to find the right balance betweenOld and newto find and at the same time preserve the charm of the interior as a whole. The architectural firm aimed to create various architectural elements connected by a monochrome color palette.
Ambiance with reference to the past
First, the old masonry and the wooden and metal beams were cleaned, painted and brought back to light. On the ground floor, a natural and warm setting was created that combines authentic elements, such as the original corner fireplace, with modern furnishings, such as the wall and ceiling paneling, and the furniture. Wall cladding has been installed throughout the first floor, which unifies the open space and makes it appear brighter. The attic paneling was used to straighten the sloping ceilings.
The attic is a modern loft with no historical features. Thanks to the monochrome color palette of muted tones and the various textures, this room acts as a natural extension of the ground floor.
The Pushka Apartment has received a new hand-made metal staircase leading from the first floor to the attic. Blinds were installed that are hidden under the attic wall paneling. A soundproof bathroom was also housed on the open ground floor.
In addition to the bathroom, a large living room, a dining room, a kitchen and pantry as well as a walk-in closet have been created on the ground floor. The living area has a large couch where you can relax with a book in hand or watch an exciting film. Thanks to the projector and screen, you can end the evening relaxing in your own home cinema. The muted gray, light wood tones and old brickwork create a great contrast to the patterned, colored carpet. Three large windows make the living area appear bright and inviting and offer a beautiful view of the green terrace. An intermediate landing on the stairs in the apartment leads first to one of the windows and offers space for a cozy seating area.
The kitchen and dining area were also furnished according to the motto “Less is more”. The monochrome color palette runs throughout all rooms and creates a calm and well-thought-out concept. The bathroom furniture and the ambience in the bathroom are characterized by elegance and simplicity. Stylish contrasts are achieved with the color duo white and black. The white bathroom furniture looks pure and stylish when accompanied by the modern black fittings. The bathroom on the upper floor is characterized by the interplay of black-gray and light brown and remains true to the specified color choice. The bedroom enforces the calm color scheme and has been furnished in a minimalist manner.
The top floor is divided into three zones - the master bedroom with bathroom, the office and a spacious walk-in closet, and the guest bedroom with its bathroom and laundry room.
