Make your own pig ear pastries: The simple 3-ingredient recipe for those who don't like baking

Pig ear pastries are one of the most popular baked goods ever, but hardly anyone dares to prepare them themselves. It seems far too complicated. But is that really it? Not if you make the pig ears from puff pastry!

A simple 3-ingredient recipe and of course the necessary products - that's all you need. And you will quickly get a delicious treat that will please not only yourself, but also your friends and relatives.

Bake the pig ear pastry with puff pastry

Yes, you can actually use the popular,Use ready-made puff pastryto conjure up this treat yourself. Otherwise, you only need sugar and chocolate, although you can leave the latter out and then only use 2 ingredients. This is how it's done:

  • frozen puff pastry
  • Zucker
  • couverture (you can also use regular chocolate instead of couverture); optionally whole milk or dark chocolate

If you have taken the dough out of the freezer in time and let it thaw, the preparation can be done really quickly. Allow about half an hour for defrosting.

How to prepare and bake the puff pastry

  • Pour sugar into a deep plate or smaller tray.
  • Take all the dough pieces apart and place them next to each other.
  • Brush them with plain water.
  • Sprinkle any amount of sugar on top.
  • Starting from one of the short sides, roll the dough to the middle.
  • Repeat the same with the opposite side. So the two roles meet in the middle.
  • Dip the dough rolls in the prepared sugar and place them on any solid surface (a board, a plate or similar).
  • Place the sugared dough in the freezer.
  • After 15 minutes you can go ahead and start baking.

Prepare a baking tray and line it with baking paper. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

  • Slice the rolls. In this way you automatically get the typical pig's ear shape.
  • Spread the slices on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake the pig ears pastry for about 10 minutes until they begin to turn golden brown.
  • You can now melt the chocolate in the water bath.
  • Dip the finished, cooled pork ears partially or completely into the chocolate and place them on baking paper so that the chocolate can set.

You can easily vary the pig ear pastry

As already mentioned, there is no need for chocolate if you make pig ears from ready-made puff pastry. You can also mix cinnamon with the sugar if you have onecinnamon tasteprefer. Or maybe you would like something hearty? Then spread tomato sauce over the dough before rolling it or sprinkle cheese on top. As you know, you can prepare puff pastry in many different ways.
