As if drawing an eyeliner wasn't complicated enough, droopy eyelids make it even more difficult for us. You drew a really clean line (even identical on both eyes!) and a short time later it blurred. Or does your eye look all the more closed afterwards? Then you may be doing something wrong when it comes to technology and products. So that you don't have to forego the cat-eye look after age 50 despite age-related droopy eyelids, we'll explain to you how to correctly apply eyeliner to droopy eyelids.
Applying make-up to droopy eyelids over 50 – the right types of eyeliner
Not all eyeliner is the same! It comes in so many versions - sometimes thin, sometimes thick, sometimes with a wing, sometimes without, combined with made-up waterline and lower eyeliner, sometimes just on the upper eyelid. While almond-shaped eyes can be used to make up almost all types, other shapes, including droopy eyelids, limit us.
A notice:In general, aKajal for droopy eyelidsis more suitable because it is not as hard as an eyeliner and therefore looks more natural.
This is what you should keep in mind when it comes to hanging eyelids:
Apply eyeliner correctly if your eyelids are drooping – thick or thin?
As you know, the drooping eyelid almost completely covers the actual eyelid. Accordingly, the makeup you have applied underneath will hardly be visible at all. And while youwith eyeshadowTherefore, if you simply “make up” the droopy eyelids by applying the right shades there, you should of course do that with the eyelinerdon't do it.
So that your eyeliner work of art can really be recognized, you can make it a little thicker anddark colorslike the classic black. We even recommend it. If it is too thin, it will simply disappear when your eye is open. A wonderful option would be the so-called Bat Winged Eyeliner.
The waterline in and under the lash line
A good trick to make your lash line appear thicker, even without mascara, is to apply eyeliner or kajal to the waterline. But not if you also struggle with drooping eyelids due to your age. What darkening the waterline also entails is making the eye appear smaller, and you want to avoid that, especially if you have droopy eyelids. So applying makeup to the waterline of the eyes is taboo.
Subtle or striking swing?
In principle, the same rule applies here as for the eyeliner line over the eyelid: it can be striking and dramatic. A smaller wing might not be as effective. The momentum also ensures that the eye is visually lifted and thus opened. How dramatic you ultimately make it depends on your preferences and of course the occasion.
A notice:If you have extreme droopy eyelids that make it impossible to pull the curl to where it should normally be, you can leave it out. Instead, just focus on the eyeliner above the lid and gradually make it thicker towards the outside.
Apply eyeliner correctly if you have drooping eyelids – And what about the lower eyelid
The lower eyelid doesn't hang, so anything should be allowed there, right? No, because how you apply make-up to the rest of the eye also influences the effect or concealment of the droopy eyelid. Therefore the following applies to the lower eyelid:
- Absolutely no eyeliner. It makes your eyes appear smaller, which has already become a problem due to the droopy eyelids.

We'll show you an example of how to apply make-up to drooping eyelids with eyeliner. Just thatDraw a lineand you won't be able to pull it off if you want to enjoy it all day long and don't want to constantly re-touch it or fix something that's blurred.
The right basis
The most important thing when applying any kind of make-up, especially eye make-up on difficult eyelids, is the right base. This refers to a primer that you apply after thoroughly cleaning your eyes. This ensures that the eyeliner can adhere well to drooping eyelids (as well as eye shadow and of course to other eyes).
The eyeliner
If you want to apply eyeliner correctly when your eyelids are drooping, you should always work on the open eye. Also, do not pull the skin up with your finger. Instead, make room for yourself by simply raising your eyebrow. Whatever is left under the skin flap doesn't need to be made up because it won't be visible anyway and, what's worse, will most likely smear quickly.
Liquid eyeliner is usually a cleaner way to work on droopy eyelids, but you can also use an eyeliner pencil.
Tipp:Instead of looking straight ahead in the mirror, you can use a table mirror that requires you to look down. Then you can save yourself the hassle of raising your eyebrows.
The swing (with less pronounced drooping eyelids)
Depending on how thick you want to apply the make-up for the hooded eyelid, you can first outline its outline with a thin pencil. Then color it in, so to speak – with liquid eyeliner or pen. Start where the upper and lower lids touch, i.e. at the outer corner of the eye, and pull the line slightly upwards to create the curve, approximately where the fold of the movable lid ends. Gradually connect the wing with the eyeliner.
