At the beginning of spring it is usually still quite cool in our latitudes. Therefore, don't rush to put your sweaters back as they can be both useful and fashionable. The same goes for cardigans. A light cardigan in a pastel color or with a soft pattern can perfectly round off many spring outfits. Pay attention to thisappropriate Styling, so that the cardigan does not outdate you.

This great YouTube video fromLuisa – The woman with the yellow sweater– names some of the biggest mistakes you can make when styling a cardigan. I find the tips very useful and that's why I'm sharing the video with you.

Blouses with floral patterns

Floral patterns are a timeless spring trend and are ideal for women over 50. Opt for blouses or tunics with subtle floral prints that will add a cheerful touch to your look. Avoid tiny, bright floral patterns and instead opt for delicate XXL prints, as these have a rejuvenating effect. Always stick to the rule of thumb: If the blouse has a pattern, the rest of the outfit should be plain. This guarantees a chic and stylish spring look.

Ankle-length pants

Ankle-length pants and culottes are not only comfortable but also extremely flattering for women of all ages. They can be wonderfully combined with blouses or T-shirts and give the spring outfit a modern touch. It is important to pay attention to the appropriate cut. Skinny models should be avoided, especially if they don't fit very comfortably. Culotte or palazzo trousers with a high waist are the onesideal choice for short womenwho want to visually stretch their figure.

Trench coat or leather jacket?

Honestly, I'd rather have both. When it comes to tops, we should always be prepared come spring. The weather is unpredictable and at the start of the season I'm almost always still wearing my winter jackets. For the warmer days in April and May, a trench and a leather jacket are the must-haves for women over 50.

The trench coat is a classic for the transitional period and always looks chic and elegant. To flatter the figure, long or extra-long models are the right choice. Opt for a classic cut in one color so that the coat fits all your spring outfits.

A chic leather biker jacket, on the other hand, will perfectly complement any casual outfit. It's even suitable for the office and is actually a must for women over 50. Don't you believe me? 5 things to avoid

In addition to the must-haves, I also have to pay some attention to the no-gos. Because sometimes it's important to know what you're doing wrong and what's ruining your style. Here are my top 5:

  1. Only wear beige: If there is one color that can visually age you, it is beige. Don't get me wrong - it's perfectly fine if you love one or two beige or cream items of clothing and wear them every now and then. But if you notice that more than a third of your wardrobe consists of beige pieces, then it's time to banish the granny pieces and make room for new colors.
  2. Too much black: Although this color looks classic and elegant, you have to be careful with it after a certain age. It can make your skin appear pale and bring out wrinkles or dark circles under the eyes. Avoid combining multiple dark tones and always pair black with a colored garment to avoid a gloomy, dated look.
  3. Tie blouses: The model is elegant, but unfortunately it can make a woman over 50 look older. Instead of the bow blouse, choose a slightly more open model with a beautiful cleavage and combine it with chic jeans for a fresh, trendy look in spring.
  4. Patterned Tunics: A long animal or floral print tunic with leggings may be a comfortable outfit for everyday wear, but if you have a specific style and want to look younger, then you should forget about this combination. A cool and rejuvenating alternative can be an oversized shirt that you finish with a belt.
  5. Skin-colored tights: Spring is the time to show off your legs again, but you should also avoid skin-colored tights unless you're a member of the British royal family. If not, then try black tights or even better – patterned ones. This gives your outfit a great update and looks anything but old-fashioned.
