Do your own pedicure at home: With our care tips, your feet will be a real eye-catcher in the summer

The summer months are slowly but surely approaching. So it's time to wear open shoes too. This makes it all the more important to present your own feet attractively. Now it's time to do your own pedicure! But it's even better to transform your feet into a real eye-catcher. We'll tell you how to do it.

Why foot care is important

Our feet are exposed to constant strain in everyday life. This makes it all the more important that we take good care of them. The coming months will put our feet on display with mostly open footwear. We therefore recommend integrating a regular pedicure into your beauty routine. In this way you can prevent discomfort and maintain the health of your feet, because they literally play a “supporting role” in life.

With over 200 tendons and ligaments, 20 muscles and bones, as well as 22 joints, they represent a complete miracle. It is also interesting that our feet have to cushion approximately three times their own body mass with every step we take.

Do your own pedicure – instructions for foot care

Now we want to show you the most common steps on how you can do your own pedicure. You also have a similar process in the cosmetic studio. We recommend that you save money and do the pedicure yourself at home.

Even if you do the pedicure yourself, the following applies: soak your feet well

First you need to prepare your feet well. To do this, it is important that you soak them well in a foot bath with lukewarm water with additives. This allows the calluses to loosen better. You can also use a peeling here so that the skin becomes even more tender. Massage the peeling cream well into your feet so that dead skin cells are removed more easily. Then rinse your feet briefly and dry them carefully. We recommend using a file intended for this purpose or even a pumice stone for callused areas.

Trim and file your toenails

Now you can start with the classic pedicure process. To do this, shorten your toenails as desired. First, use pliers to cut the nails to the desired length and file corners and edges to suit your taste. Then remove dead cuticles with a pair of scissors designed for this purpose or carefully push back the cuticles with a rosewood stick. It is important that you cut both the nails and the skin around them correctly, i.e. according to their natural shape. Otherwise you risk nails growing into the nail bed. This is counterproductive because it misses the actual goal of the pedicure to maintain the health of the feet and causes pain. You should also be very careful to completely remove the calluses. Otherwise, cracks may form over time. These in turn represent an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. There is a great risk that inflammatory reactions and severe pain will result.

Foot massage promotes blood circulation

Now is also the time to treat yourself to a foot massage. Since you are doing the foot pedicure yourself, simply take a suitable cream and massage it into the skin. It is important to leave out the nail area if you thenpaint your toenailswant. If not, you can treat the nail bed with a nourishing oil.

Painting nails takes learning

However, if you decide to use nail polish, then we recommend vomTo paint the base of the nail towards the tipand never place the brush directly on the cuticle. Ideally, you apply the brush stroke directly over the middle of the nail. Then paint the right and then the left side. To make the color even more saturated, you should apply a second layer on top.

Once the nail polish has dried, we advise you to massage your feet with a rich cream. This also stimulates blood circulation. To increase the care effect, you can leave the cream on overnight by wearing fine socks. We recommend repeating the pedicure every three to four weeks.

If you do the pedicure yourself anda French lookIf you want to achieve this, you should first carry out foot care according to the instructions.

When painting, the first thing you should do is apply a base coat and let it dry for 10 minutes.

To make the French pedicure easier, we recommend that you use a so-called toe separator. You should also use stencils so that the famous white line fits well. Stick these in the middle of the nail. Place the upper end where the natural white of the nail bed begins. Now apply a little white polish in the middle. Then drag the brush from left to right to the outer tips of the nails. Let the whole thing dry thoroughly. Stay patient, because you can only remove the films without worry if the layer is really dry. However, if the nail polish has run a bit, this can be corrected using a nail correction pen. You can usually get this at any drugstore.

The penultimate step is to apply a final coat of clear, rose or nude nail polish and let the whole thing dry thoroughly for about 30 minutes. If you are aiming for a milkier French look, apply the colored varnish over it again. Finally, a clear varnish is applied for protection. This means your feet can shine with new freshness and a beautiful summery shine.
