Shoe rack design as an alternative to a shoe cabinet if there is not enough space

Every woman feels the same way about shoes as she does about clothes - you never have enough of them. When you buy it, you don't think about storage and soon there won't be any free space left for storage. Shoe cabinets and storage systems are designed and manufactured to be functional, but take up significantly more space. Alternatively, there is a shoe rack design that also ensures order, but also presents the lavish shoe collection in a visually attractive way.

Shoe storage systems, such as shoe cabinets, protect shoes from dust and light, thereby extending their lifespan. Shoe racks, on the other hand, are suitable for keeping the pairs that you wear in everyday life or simply often within easy reach. They are open-plan and usually find space in the hallway, or part of the cloakroom. The biggest advantage of shoe racks is that they allow for adequate ventilation. If shoes are often placed in the shoe cabinet while they are still damp, they can start to smell or even become moldy.

Before shoes are stored in the shoe cabinet, they should be dry and well ventilated. It takes a while and then they can be placed on the open shoe racks in the hallway. Since shoes always remain visible, the entrance area can quickly appear untidy. They collect dust relatively quickly on the shelves and when exposed to direct sunlight the leather becomes porous and the fabric fades. For the sake of your shoes, only store them behind closed doors or in boxes for the long term.

Shoes decorate the feet, but can also decorate the walls in the hallway.Shoebloxis a very interesting storage system that uses magnetic forces. Mounted on a metal plate on the wall, a pair of shoes can be attached using magnets. The magnetic forces pull each other very strongly and because of the high tension they do not shift and remain stable at the specific point.

The plates can be arranged anywhere on the wall, allowing the shoes to be creatively integrated into the interior. This unusual shoe storage serves as a kind of functional decoration and is an eye-catcher and you can get the pair of shoes you want with a wave of your hand.

This bracket can be described as a free-standing shelf with an unusual shape. It is made of sheet steel that has been deformed into waves. The front part of the shoe fits into the waves and the back part hangs in the air. In this way, six pairs of shoes can be stored quietly in the hallway without cramping it and of course without complicated assembly and without drilling into the wall.

Heels and high heels are easy to store when hanging. A grid with gaps large enough for the heel to fit easily into it works well for this purpose. You can easily make a shoe rack like this yourself. Just find a grid that is sturdy enough and lean it against the wall.

You can also design open shelves that don't accommodate too many pairs. Old furniture and accessories can be used here. This old wooden ladder, for example, was partially dismantled and only half of it was retained. At the back, the shelves are supported by two crossed wooden slats to prevent shoes from tipping backwards. The ladder can be casually leaned on a wall and used functionally but also decoratively.

If there isn't too much space, creative home-made designs come in handy. Every free space can be optimized and reorganized for storage. For example, shelves with a triangular shape can be inserted into a corner and mounted directly on the wall. Another option would be to tie rectangular shelves around a central axis and put them back on the wall. This means that no floor space is taken up, so the room doesn't seem cramped and the shoes don't lie chaotically on the floor.

Geometric figures can be inserted perfectly into and next to each other and therefore serve as a perfect source of ideas for various organization systems. On the other hand, a pair of shoes as a solid body describes a wedge or, more simply, a triangle. In this chain of thought, not only one pair of shoes can fit into a cuboid, as usual, but two. Maybe the designers also thought about something like this when they designed it for a sports store window.

Every lavish shoe collection deserves to be presented properly. The shoes therefore take on a different meaning and serve as a kind of decorative object. Next to pictures and plants or in separate departments with directional lighting, they become another eye-catcher.

When it comes to concepts for small apartments, there is always some inspiration to be found about how space can be cleverly saved without damaging the tidy overall appearance. In this one-room apartment, everything useful has been optimized into a single wooden structure. The space under the stairs is used for storage. One part of it consists of open shelves and the other – of pull-out shoe racks. These will be pushed out as needed. When closed, only a subtle wooden surface remains visible, which is not noticeable at all.

This variant not only saves space and ensures more order, but also avoids the visually chaotic effect that shoe racks are usually associated with.

This storage system is another example of a successful concept for small apartments. The drawers and compartments use the entire height of the room and almost reach the ceiling. These can be pushed in and out, but how do you get to the top ones? When extended, the lower compartments function as steps that you climb up to open the upper ones.

Some shoe racks impress with their clever and particularly imaginative design, others optimize storage space. Some can also be designed yourself if you have a fair amount of craftsmanship. Let your shoes shine in the right light or disappear discreetly. You are spoiled for choice!
