In 2017 the architects ofmw|works architecture + designa fascinating house designed in Seattle, USA. At first glance, the wooden house facade is striking and immediately evokes associations with cosiness, warmth and comfort. The clients initially replaced the rural surroundings east of Seattle with the dynamism and cultural life of the city. The quiet surroundings and relaxed everyday life in your old home drove you to redesign the house. The concern was simply too big for two people and two small dogs. The goal of the renovation project for your current home was to create a feel-good place that suits your taste and is adapted to your activities.
The Helen Street home is located north of Madison Valley and borders Washington Park Arboretum. What was desired was a simple but modern structure with simple and uniform materials that could be achieved on a modest budget. The house should be flooded with light and as open as possible. Nevertheless, a certain degree of privacy and at the same time transparency with the surrounding landscape should be guaranteed.Large glass frontsGlass sliding doors were skilfully used where more transparency was desired. The owners wanted to live in a house with a natural design that would blend harmoniously into the surrounding nature. The wooden house facade fully meets these requirements and allows the building to become one with the landscape.
The two-story house accommodates a living room, a kitchen, a dining area and a library. Stairs lead to the private area upstairs. The upper floor, which floats above the rest of the building, is also clad in naturally weathered cedar. Except thatbeautiful house facadeThere is another design element that is a real eye-catcher. “Helen Street House” has a bright, leafy courtyard in the center of the property, which ensures the desired privacy even outdoors. The sunnier southern and western sides were reserved for the gardens. A green fence merges the border with the beautiful landscape.
From the great design concept to completion, this dream home was created in close collaboration with the homeowners. The end result is undoubtedly an idyllic home in harmony with nature.
