Sustainable design based on bioclimatic analysis – Villa GK in Portugal

Villa GK is located on a hill on the Algarve coast and has breathtaking views of the ocean. For the one-story building, the architects developed a sustainable design based on bioclimatic analysis and green thinking. The aim was to take advantage of the Portuguese coastal climate and integrate these features into a sophisticated and contemporary design.

The architects focus on sustainable design and modern living

This flat roof house has a floor area of 163 square meters. It is more compact on the north side and opens up on the south side with generous full glazing. The open living area is therefore protected by the two rooms on the north facade, which serve as a thermal barrier. In addition, there is the possibility of one of these rooms becoming independent, increasing the flexibility of the floor plan.

According to preliminary analysis, it was also possible to use sunlight and wind to provide passive air conditioningthe natural lightingto be optimized through large windows. From the living room you have a view of the breathtaking landscape with blue sky and sea.

Well-thought-out sun protection solutions are implemented, not only to control solar radiation, but also to ensure that the privacy of the residents is not compromised. On one side of the house there is a steel staircase that leads to a roof terrace.

Sustainable construction technology is an important feature when it comes to efficiency analyzes and accounting for energy gains and losses. The house was designed using materials with high energy efficiency, in particular walls made of “Tabicesa” bricks combined with high performance insulation (on the facade) andtriple glazed windows. The interior plaster is made of clay and ensures good indoor air quality.

Demand the integration of green energies

Sustainable design also includes the use of renewable energy sources and reducing resource consumption. The house has a geothermal heat pump for heating and cooling and a system forReusing clean water. This connection between the environment and modern architecture creates an undeniably pleasant atmosphere in the villa.
