Make a Christmas tree out of a tomato trellis

Christmas decorations without a Christmas tree are simply unthinkable. But why buy a new Christmas tree when you can upcycle your unnecessary tomato trellises and make your own Christmas tree? You can use both artificial and real greenery and decorate the tree however you like. There are also many unusual ideas for Christmas trees that use the tomato vine support as a base. We have collected the most beautiful of them for you.

Make an artificial Christmas tree for Christmas decorations

Making a simple Christmas tree out of trellises is actually not rocket science. This project only requires a few materials and tools and you will surely love the result.

What you need:

  • Wire tomato climbing tower
  • tape
  • some flexible fir garlands
  • Christmas tree decorations of your choice

Start with the trellis upside down on the ground with the largest ring serving as the base. Gather the ends of the wire rods together and secure them with some tape. Then the construction for the Christmas tree is finished.

Now start wrapping the base with the green garlands from the tip down. Also wrap individual pieces around the horizontal support rings to prevent the garland from sliding down.

Gradually fluff the garland to form a tree. You can bend the branches a little to hide bare spots.

Once the Christmas tree is finished, add the tree decorations, garlands and possibly a string of lights.

They are suitable for both indoors and outdoors and can be designed and decorated as desired.

How about some natural-looking Christmas trees, for example? To do this, wrap the wire construction again with artificial pine garlands, but instead of Christmas balls and garlands, use some pine cones as tree decorations. You can place the trees in suitable pots and thusDecorate your house entrance in winter. If the pots are filled with soil, you should remove the bottom ring of the trellis tower to insert the stakes directly into the soil.

DIY minimalist wire Christmas tree

But you don't necessarily have to decorate the tomato climbing tower with garlands to make a beautiful Christmas tree. It's even easier if you dye the wire (or use a colored climbing tower) and hang the tree decorations directly on the wire rings. To do this, place the trellis upside down and tie the rods together with adhesive tape or a cable tie.

As a tree topper, you can either use a classic poinsettia or simply tie a pretty fabric bow. This decoration also serves to hide the cable tie or adhesive tape.

To attach the Christmas balls to the tree, paper clips are perfect as hangers. Simply bend the middle part of the bracket downwards, hang the ball on the shorter end and hang the longer end on the wire ring.

Make your own wire Christmas tree for outside

Such a minimalist Christmas tree also fits well outdoors. For a nice effect you can place it in an empty bucket. To anchor the trellis in the pot, attach a bungee cord to the bottom support ring and weigh it down with a rock, as shown in the picture above.

Of course, the atmospheric lights should not be missing from the Christmas decorations. To make your Christmas tree made of tomato trellis shine, attach a matching string of lights. Another great idea would be to make the Christmas tree entirely out of lights. This is how it works:

Get two 100-light expandable string lights or one longer string light. Untangle the cord and tie the end without the connector together with the rods of the wire structure with a cable tie. If the string of lights has an open end, place a piece of fabric tape on it to protect it from the elements.

Then wrap the string lights around the tree, leaving enough wire free at the bottom to connect the string lights. This outdoor Christmas tree may not look very attractive during the day, but it provides beautiful lighting accents in the garden in the evening.
