Start by sticking a few branches upright into the ground in the middle area. Then create a row of shorter branches in front of it and those that hang forward over the edge of the box. Of course, you can also spray or paint branches yourself in a desired accent color (gold or silver, for example). Don't overdo it with the quantity. Just stick a few twigs here and there between the fir greenery. These are the high accents for the background (or for the middle area if on a railing).
