Craft projects of all shapes and sizes work best when there is a focal point. Decorated lanterns for your mantel can look cute and make the room cozy!
What you need to make lampposts for your mantel:
- Lanterns or wall lights of your choice
- Wood – You can use reclaimed wood for a rustic farmhouse look
- Battery puck lights
- wood screws
- saw
- Wire cutters
- Drills and bits
- Grinding of your choice
- Pine cones

- Assemble your posts. The vertical piece should rest against the wall with the foot forward. Holding the boards at a right angle, drive two or three wood screws through the upright piece and into the base.
- Fastenthe lampon your “old” lamp post.
- Now the lights are powered by batteries. Instead of incandescent bulbs, you'll need a pair of battery-operated LED puck lights, preferably with a remote control. Attach the puck lights to the base of the outlet.
- Decorate your lanterns by attaching the bows to the top and adding some greenery. Place some pine cones on the mantel for a wintery look!

Mason jars with lace doilies and candles
Mason jars make excellent candle holders for winter decorations. But you don't want to just put a candle in the jar and move on! Well, you could, but we should use a little finesse. For safety and to prevent the candle from flying around in the jar, you should surround it with a layer of sand or with decorative stones or colored gemstones.
The great thing about mason jars is that they were invented to withstand the heat of canning, so the heat from the candle can't harm them. Bring some romance into your home this winter with a lanternfrom mason jarand lace. Spray a lace doily with glue and adhere it to a clean mason jar. Wrap the edge with burlap, ribbon, or string. With a lit tea light or votive candle inside, it's quite enchanting.
