The unspoiled environment of South Lombok fascinated the architect. Since the villagers were alert to new developments, the house had to fit particularly harmoniously into the landscape. For this reason, the architect used local materials and even involved local talent in the project. The limestone facade and Bangkirai wood take center stage, while Indonesian architectural accents complement the design. Bedrock excavated for the site was reused to create retaining walls, walkways and planters. This approach is also repeated in landscape design. Native plants were collected and cultivated in a greenhouse to later find their place in the gardens around the house.
The limestone facade adapts optimally to the surroundings
The architecture of the house represents a combination of masses and empty spaces while conveying privacy and openness. The two elongated structures form a geometrically minimalist composition with the aim of making the view a highlight of the property.
A fully glazed facade offers a direct view of the gardenthrough sliding doorsopens onto sunny terraces. The living and dining room are combined in one large room. The wooden furniture adds warmth to the entire bright and open living area. From here, residents can enjoy the area's unique geographical features throughout the seasons.
The first floor includes two guest bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a children's room with custom-made bunk beds and a master bedroom with its own private bathtub with a view. The adjacent covered lounge terrace invites you to linger. Outdoor spas in each self-contained private suite provide a wonderful place to relax while also enjoying nature. The outdoor areas offer stunning 180 degree views of the Jabon hills and Selong Belanak Beach.
The yoga and wellness studio is also located on the ground floor. The room is open to the surrounding natural garden on three sides, allowing for natural cooling and cross ventilation. There are four hanging chairs that can be used to rest and relax. These can be replaced with TRX machines for wellness workouts.
