As with everything in your interior, the decoration can of course be designed entirely according to your ideas. Nevertheless, a harmonious interaction between it and the furniture and textiles is desired.

It would make sense if you choose and distribute the decorations for shelves sparingly. Avoid completely filling up all compartments and shelves, as this will make the piece of furniture seem overloaded, oppressive and radiate chaos rather than inviting calm.

Play with the colors, thoughavoid a colorful chaos of colors. A combination of two to three colors should be sufficient. Of course, these should also fit in with the rest of the furnishings. The same applies to the materials (colors). Copper, concrete, brass and porcelain are modern and chic, but they need to be combined skillfully.

How can you arrange the books?

As already mentioned, there areespecially the books, which find their place on a shelf. And here you can play with the way you display them. Place them:

  • classic and upright
  • lying and stacked on top of each other
  • sorted by color or according to another system
  • only here and there in a few compartments on the shelf so that the whole thing doesn't look too crowded
  • as a base for other decorations (e.g. for lifting figures or vases)
  • You can wrap the books all in the same paper to create a harmonious color look

The lighting as decoration for the shelf

In itself, decorative lighting has long since found its way into interior spaces, be it in the form of candles, floor lamps, indirect lightor fairy lights. It's just that very few people think about including the shelf. And by that we don't just mean on special occasions like Christmas, but permanently. You could decorate the wall shelf with:

  • a string of lights curtain behind the shelf if the back is open
  • You could attach a normal string of lights in front of the shelf and along the front edges
  • place a night lamp in any compartment and turn it on in the evening hours
  • LED candles can also be placed
  • Fairy lights in the glass look very romantic
  • bright hanging decoration? Why not? It could hang beautifully in a compartment and illuminate it

Simply lean this against the back wall of the shelf.
