It would be a good idea to take precautions now and equip yourself with an effective insect spray. If you don't want to use commercial chemical products, you can easily make a natural mosquito spray yourself. Make your own insect spray

If you want to make your own mosquito spray, the right mixing ratio is important. The sprays usually have a minimum content of 2 to 5 percent and are diluted with another base oil. Examples of suitable base oils include:

  • Jojoba oil
  • Coconut oil
  • almond oil
  • olive oil
  • castor oil
  • Black cumin oil (also effective against ticks)
  • Mustard oil

Which of these you use depends on your preferences, because the oils differ not only in terms of their aroma and the strength of the aroma, but also in their consistency. Just try different ones to find the best one for you.

If you want to make your own mosquito spray for children, you can easily use such oils, provided there is no allergy. However, sprays and other products that are applied are not suitable as a natural mosquito repellent for babies under 6 months, so an alternative should be used (e.g. mosquito net).

You can basically combine any essential and base oil to get the spray that suits your scent preferences. For example, not everyone likes the scent of eucalyptus, cloves or geraniums, so these can easily be replaced with other effective scents. Below we would like to introduce you to a few ideas for combining oils.

Make your own mosquito spray with lavender, palmarosa and eucalyptus

  • 50 ml base oil
  • 5 drops of lavender
  • 15 drops of eucalyptus
  • 15 drops of palmarosa

As already mentioned, lavender is very effective against mosquitoes. In combination with the other oils the effect is even enhanced. If you would like to make this mosquito spray yourself, simply put all the oils in a spray bottle, shake it well and the spray can be used. Shake before each use.

Mosquito repellent spray with lemongrass, geranium and rosemary

  • 1 1/2 tbsp water
  • 1 TL Basisöl
  • 8 drops of rosemary oil
  • 8 drops lemongrass oil
  • 4 drops of geranium oil

Pour the ingredients into a spray bottle, close it and shake vigorously to mix all the oils well. Also shake the bottle before each use. The quantities can be doubled if you want to fill a larger bottle.

Mix of many oils against mosquitoes and other insects

  • 115 ml distilled water
  • 115 mlWitch hazel water (also known as witch hazel)
  • 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin
  • 20 drops of lemongrass oil
  • 15 drops of citronella oil
  • 10 drops of eucalyptus oil
  • 10 Tropfen Teebaumöl
  • 5 drops of rosemary oil
  • 5 drops of cinnamon leaf oil

Spray with witch hazel water, vinegar and essential oils as a natural mosquito repellent

  • 60 ml Hamameliswasser
  • 60 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 20 drops of any essential oil from the list above (you can also combine several)

Place all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake. You should also do this before each application. Then you can spray not only your skin but also your clothing with the mosquito repellent.

Make your own mosquito spray – recipe with peppermint and tea tree oil

  • 340 ml Hamameliswasser
  • 15 drops of citronella oil
  • 15 drops of lemongrass oil
  • 10 drops of peppermint oil
  • 10 Tropfen Teebaumöl

If you would like to make this mosquito spray yourself, mix all the ingredients in a bottle by shaking it well. Immediately afterwards the spray is ready for use. You should also shake the spray well before the next use, as the oils separate from each other over time.

Make your own mosquito spray with neem oil

  • 2 THE Neemöl
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp Coconut milk
  • 10-15 drops of citronella oil

If the coconut oil is solid, you should first melt it in a water bath or in the microwave. Then mix all the ingredients together in a spray bottle. Shake it vigorously and now use the homemade insect spray.
