Design your own iron-on transfers – tips and instructions
The item of clothing for which you want to make the iron-on transfers yourself should be able to be ironed and withstand the heat. Many artificial materials are therefore not suitable. For example, cotton and polyester are perfect. Just look at the label beforehand and check whether theIroned fabricmay be.
Print and cut out any iron-on image. Place it on a piece of plastic wrap and place another piece of foil on top. Now cut out the foil roughly around the motif and place it on the fabric that you want to design yourself with iron-on transfers. Connect the iron, place baking paper on the design and iron over the baking paper once the iron is hot enough. The heat causes the film to melt and serves as an adhesive and to seal the iron-on motifs.
Danger:If your motif has lettering, you must edit and mirror it before printing. This works very easily with Paint.
Wash the garment carefully by hand and inside out to avoid ruining the design as it is more delicate than most store-bought ones.
Make your own iron-on transfers using paper napkins
If you would like to make iron-on transfers out of paper yourself, you can use them instead of printed out designsUse paper napkins. The procedure is the same as if you make an iron-on image yourself without napkins: Cut it out, place it between two layers of cling film and transfer it to the fabric with an iron and baking paper.
Use iron-on foil and make your own iron-on application
You can also buy special iron-on foil (transfer paper) and then print it with your favorite motif. To do this, use a laser or inkjet printer, depending on your preference. The film has an adhesive that is activated by the heat when ironed on. In this way, the motif is transferred to the fabric and the film can be removed.
