The gel contained in the thick leaves can be used fresh and directly, without processing and free of charge. Actually, the fresher the leaves are, the more intense the healing effect is. These can be kept for up to a few weeks if stored cool in the refrigerator. Before you can harvest the valuable gel, also called aloe latex, from your plant, the plant should be around 3 years old and have at least 12 leaves.

If you want to extract valuable gel from your own aloe vera plant, proceed as follows:

  • Pick off an outer leaf and place it vertically in a container for about 1.5 hours so that the lovely “Alion” juice runs out.
  • Then cut about 3 cm from the end. (This piece is no longer used.)
  • Then use a clean (disinfected) knife to cut the leaf long, taking care not to get too close to the bark and carefully removing only the pure, clear pulp.
  • Place the gel in a clean, disinfected glass jar and store in the refrigerator.
  • It is best to use fresh or preserve in 20 percent pure wine spirit and freeze in portions. The recommended daily dose is 3 to 5 tablespoons daily.
